Colorado elk draw!

A few of the units in the link you posted had Archery results. Most only had rifle results. Did I miss something?
I'm not sure exactly what you are referring to? I did see that some of the antlerless V1A NR archery units had ZERO applicants for the tag during the draw. Just shows that most NR are not interested in antlerless elk tags. I don't blame them especially with the price of the tag, might as well try and get a set of antlers

For example, unit 49 did not show results of non res elk archery draw. I'm almost sure I'm not reading something right. Unit 53 is another example.

49 archery is fully draw for everyone. To guarantee a NR tag required 13pp but you had a chance with 12pp.

53 NR V1A. Drew all the way in to 4th choice and there is 193 tags remaining. Two people used significant preference points to draw this tag when they could have drawn it 4th choice.

It always amuses me the amount of points some people burn on units. I just glanced through and saw a unit with 700 tags leftover but someone burned 17 points on the tag? How does that happen?

Stupidity/lack of understanding the draw or someone just saying eff it and getting out for good.

I don't understand where or why the terms "burn points" "burnt points" "burning points" came from. You are USING your points to go hunting.

But yeah it is definitely interesting looking at the units people use their higher points on.

That could be the case. Could also be that they have been hunting the same OTC units for a decade plus while collecting points and have had success in the past. Why change locations and hunt a new spot you are not familiar with when you are basically getting forced to use your points? Might as well just go hunting your normal unit and hope for the best.

A lot of people collect points with the idea of killing a trophy class animal. There are trophy class animals in every unit west of I-25. OTC units included. 0pp units all the way to 30pp+ units. Many people think the higher the preference points a unit takes the easier it is to kill said trophy. There have been plenty of hunters who ended up unsuccessful or severely disappointed when hunting their 20pp+ unit.

Units with high preference points doesn't automatically mean there are more huge animals in the unit versus a lower point unit. Just because you are in a high preference point unit doesn’t mean pass a 300-320" bull early in the hunt thinking you will kill a 350"+ as you will likely go empty handed.

One thing that you can count on with a high preference point unit is lesser pressure. Not no pressure just lesser. Most camps in high preference point units have 5-10 people in them with only one person with a tag. There are still lots of people on the mountain just not "hunters"

Also, preference points don't mean anything if you don't know how to hunt. I suppose that could be considered burning points as you didn't do yourself any favors and wasted your hunt by not gaining experience while collecting your points.

I posted it on page 8.

So there was an increase of 15,680 NR applicants this year over 2024.
Curious if Utah’s applicants dropped by a similar margin after the price hike, I don’t know if the timing would have allowed for that though. Probably quite a few first point builders looking to jump ship next year too. Either way, Colorado just made almost 1.3mil more than last year on NR qualifying licenses

You answered my question on the archery draw results on those units. Thanks. I must have scrolled past it several times or its out of sequence on the report.

Yep. Especially when guys were clamoring about when the draw results would be posted.

Now they know when it was run - and still not posted to the website
Bet you that date will be wiped off that sheet when they re-post the draw reports.....

They don't like pulling back the curtain that much...
