Colorado elk draw!

Bet you that date will be wiped off that sheet when they re-post the draw reports.....

They don't like pulling back the curtain that much...
The 2024 Draw Recap has a 5/16/2024 date so not sure what they'd gain by changing the date on the 2025 reports.

49 archery is fully draw for everyone. To guarantee a NR tag required 13pp but you had a chance with 12pp.

53 NR V1A. Drew all the way in to 4th choice and there is 193 tags remaining. Two people used significant preference points to draw this tag when they could have drawn it 4th choice.

Good. Hopefully they don’t return the tags and get out of the pool.

I've done some looking around and e-scouting of units 64/65 for my fall hunts. I was wondering if any of you with experience in that part of CO would be willing to answer a few questions through PM?

Ask away, that is in my neck of the woods. I have not hunted 64/65, but have hunted 60, 61, 70, 71, 74, & 66.

I put my daughter in for both an elk tag and a deer tag in the secondary draw with the plan being to have elk as first choice and deer as second and if we drew both we'd turn her deer tag back in. CC got hit this morning for $126 so I guess she got a tag, but we don't know which one yet. If she got an elk tag it could be one of several as we put in for 4 choices. In hindsight I should have put her 2nd/3rd/4th choices differently but either way I guess we'll know shortly.

A buddy of mine did the same for his son (different but overlapping unit choices but his son loves to bowhunt so they put in for elk/deer/bear in bow season) and they got hit this morning for $126. That surprised me; I thought youth archery tags would be an easy draw but it looks like they only got one(?) instead of three.

Guess we'll know shortly.

I'm not sure exactly what you are referring to? I did see that some of the antlerless V1A NR archery units had ZERO applicants for the tag during the draw. Just shows that most NR are not interested in antlerless elk tags. I don't blame them especially with the price of the tag, might as well try and get a set of antlers

I'm strictly a rifle hunter (I do hunt with a bow and shot a doe here at home last year, but I have multiple shoulder injuries that mean I shouldn't plan bowhunts months in advance) and I'll tell you right now, if I could get a cow tag in a unit where I'd have some degree of solitude, I'd take one every year, and I regret not pursuing that strategy in years past. I'd much rather hunt cows in something like unit 61 or unit 2 where I could have a quality experience, see some nice bulls, and take home 150 pounds of tastiness, than to do a bull hunt in a crowded unit. Reality is in those units I'll be taking home a small set of antlers (at best) anyway. I passed up some small legal bulls on private land a couple years ago and ended up with a decent 5x5 and would happily bring home a cow instead of one of those little bulls.

Same her, I ended up switching to a crossbow after shoulder surgery and stuck with it for whitetail, and it’s been a fantastic decision. Archery success is high here at home. Now I'm setting my eyes on Wyoming elk archery, where crossbows are allowed. For me, it’s all about the meat; I’m not chasing a trophy. But honestly, nothing beats a solid rifle hunt

I was on the fence about putting in for a lower odds unit but decided on 64/65 instead. Drew an archery tag. My buddy was supposed to put in for the same bus somehow messed up and put in for 34/35 instead and drew that. We are trying to figure out how to get tags in the same unit if there are leftovers when they release everything in August. Does anyone on here have experience in 64/65 and 34/35 hunting archery?

Secondary draw is youth's heaven. Last year my son did well and kept up with us, this time around will plan better to minimize time off school and hopefully experience true backpacking hunt.
Anyone would like to share an advise/recommendation for backpacking with youth?

We homeschool, so my daughter won't miss a day. Field trip!

Residents, are your tags showing up yet? Brochure shows licenses in the mail on June 27th and I haven't received mine yet. Thinking in years past it would have been here within two weeks of the "in the mail" date. Not quite worried yet but just wondering if I'm alone.
