Colorado Draw Results 2025!

Some really strange point burning going on, 16 pts, lots of 5-7 point applications for what was a 100% unit for the last 15 years

If i'm reading this right... Some dude burned 19 points on a zero point unit lmao
There are oddities like that in the reports every year. Several possible explanations…that guy might have typed in the wrong hunt code on his application, mistakenly thought Colorado averages points on group applications, or maybe he doesn’t care about his points and just wants to hunt with a group of low/no pointholders.

Well hes gonna get to hunt with a group of about 3,000 buddies lol

Some very interesting numbers in the draw results so far...

If/when someone smarter than me analyzes all of them, my hunch is that their takeaway will be "the draw stats this year were really weird and unpredictable."

Not sure if I feel better or worse now that I know I was on the wrong side of 70% odds

Happens every year, guys with burn 5/10/15 points on 0 point units. Most likely they don’t hunt and are going with family, have a cabin to stay at ect…
I always think of this as they know something that I don't. Maybe there's a specific bull on private, etc.

From my cursory skimming, it looks like the best and worst units (except the new NR archery draw units) behaved normally, with about 0.5-1.5 points of creep and the normal number of point burning here and there.

Then everything in the middle was absolutely insane.

20+ points burned in a 3 point unit.

The 2 max point holders, guys with 39 Elk points that could've drawn any unit they want guaranteed for the last 6 years, put in for points again. That's just funny to me.

10+ points burned in units that were OTC last year and have leftover tags this year.

Hundreds of guys putting halo-tier units as their 2nd/3rd choice.

130,000 (over half) applicants still went points first choice.

I've never been more convinced that there are only like 20 people who actually understand how this draw works.

Eh… maybe. I think that’s giving far too much credit haha, the vast majority of hunters are not on rokslide, nor do they think like us. Just had a neighbor who did this 7 points for a 0 point unit, it’s cause his buddy just bought a cabin there. That was the reasoning.i even tried to nudge him in the right direction, told him he could hunt a lot of places with more elk… nope, he wouldn’t have any of it haha it’s kind of funny but hey man they were his points

This is accurate

Reminds me of the saying "think about how dumb the average guy is, and then remember half of everybody is dumber than that."

Can confirm that many seasoned hunters don't get it. I have too many examples to share that you all already are aware of.

My favorite is a friend who is an absolute stud of a hunter who has a great many racks on his wall and asked me if he loses a pt for drawing his third choice, ... Ay caramba. I, the newest hunter I know around here, know the rules because I read (because I avoid doing my job)...

It doesn't make a better hunter though.

Edit: added 'many' to first sentence

I'm not seeing the stats on the new NR draw stats for the old OTC units for Archery. You?

It should have a "V1" but I cannot find it via a search.

EDIT, weird, the 2025 just went away.
