Just finished packing last night and will be leaving tomorrow morning. I can't wait! Hopefully I'll get there in time to do some "road glassing" before dark.

Here's a quick run down of my gear:
  • 7mm Rem Mag, Nikon buckmaster scope, shooting 150 grain bullets
  • Nikon 50mm ED spotter (will use for backpacking, long hike hunts)
  • Nikon 65mm ED spotter (will use when wt isn't an issue)
  • Targus 48" camera tripod (weighs a lb and works great in combo with 50ED)
  • 10x42 Swaro bino's
  • Deuter Act Lite 65 (awesome pack- under 4 lbs, ~4,000 ci)- will use for overnight hunts or packing meat
  • Eberlestock- Day hunts
  • Eureka tent
  • Marmot 20 F sleeping bag
  • Therm-a-Rest NeoAir pad
  • Schnee's pac boots
  • Salomon hiking boots
  • Outdoor Research gaiters
  • And lots of clothing to layer-up (base layers, sitka 90 pants, Marmot 800 down jacket, fleece shirts, fleece jacket, Columbia soft shell jacket, Red Ledge rain jacket and pants)

like the deuter pack I have a different model but it has been an awesome pack couldn't ask for any better after all the abuse I've put it through! Good luck

As much as I don't like that drive, there is usually some fun waiting at the end of it. Drive safe and keep us posted.

Its on!

My gut feeling is telling me to go high above 9k feet but I saw enough does and small bucks, around 20, to stay lower. At least for this first morning.

Strategy for this hunt is simple..glass quakies and oakbrush. Get good vantage pts and cover as much country as possible.

Make it happen CD!!!

Good luck man, I'll keep close tabs on you during my hunt just a few units away. Have fun staying warm during the long night hours in your bivy ..... anything for a chance at a big buck!!!

13 Does and 3 bucks this morning. Biggest was 22 inch 4 pt. Bucks were a little rutty which is goood but I still think the big ones are back a bit, up a little higher. Going to back out and try a different spot, same vicinity but higher for tonight.

Man I love hunting here!

Just got a glimpse of a potential shooter. He walked in some oakbrush. Can't see him now. I know he has good fronts

Vandal, Thats a good sign man! Usually the deer in that region have big backs like your last deer. If its got good front its a good chance he is a shooter .......... Can't wait!

Just had a very nice 3x4 within 350 yards. 27 wide low 180 frame if his other side had 4 pts. My safety was off and I just about shot but decided to pass. Only deer I've seen so far today.

Hot out
