Still getting after it everybody? I heard it’s a little disheartening in a bunch of units to say the least.

I am Headed to the Flattop Wilderness for the 3rd Rifle - from what general areas are you hearing from?

I was dropping my kids off at school today, and noticed one of the other dad's wearing a CPW uniform. After introducing myself I began the usual interrogation; What units do you work? How have the harvest numbers been this year? What areas have been good/poor?
Response...

Southern part of state fair to average
Central part of state is mixed
Northern part of state below average

Expectation is for success to pick up now that snow is falling.

Colorado report....

Appreciate it - my first trip west (64 years old) - hunting with a guide and hoping to see some elk. I have figured all along this would be a learning experience - hopefully the first of many trips. Being from Atlanta - having a hard time figuring out the weather - single digits one day and in the fifties the next. Again , thanks for the information and best wishes.

Our group of four never saw an elk in unit 24. Talked to a dozen others, and none of them saw an elk either. Then talked to an outfitter with 28 hunters between 1st and 2nd seasons, and not one of them saw an elk. But I guess elk do exist, as I saw one set of antlers on a truck on the way back to Iowa.

i should have read further down, When I say pressure I mean from guides with horses, since you’ll be on said horses I’m sure you’ll see elk out there

I find it really hard to believe an outfitter in unit 24 had 28 guys not see an elk???Cmon let's be real!!!

Son killed a raghorn this am in central part of state on otc tag. Hunted in cold temps and snow.

Daughter killed a good bull first season. So they are out there.

We are heading home to Michigan now. Opening day in unit 33 we saw two 5x5 and a nice 6x6 together feeding. We tried to sneak in but they disappeared. There was a huge canyon between us so we wouldn't have been able to shoot across anyway. We tried to find them again but it just wasn't possible to find them with our skill level and the cover there. The rest of the trip we covered alot of ground but never found another elk.
