Interesting with what they did with 2nd and 3rd rifle. I wonder why they did that. The taking of 2 days for each season may help the deer more than the elk. Most people don't have it in them to hunt the full 9 days.

The starting in the middle of the week ought to make some NRs mad.

With the later dates for rifle seasons, fourth season will now overlap with Thanksgiving for 2021-2023. Likewise, fourth season will overlap with late season AZ rifle bull at least in 2021 and 2022. Definitely some new things to consider here.

I only hunt 2nd rifle elk, I can live with 7 day season instead of 9, just glad they kept it OTC, starting on a Wednesday is no big deal to me either, I have a lot of vacation. Doesn’t seem that any constituency got screwed really. I see some gripes and moaning, but there’s something for everyone. Would I prefer 9 day season? Sure, but 7 will do.

I was hopeful for the early deer start but voted for the archery elk and rifle options that they are pushing.

I doubt the CBA rebuttal changes anything as far as the CPW is concerned.

I'll go early and target deer first this archery season. Then, I'll save my points and try to score a late deer tag before the five year structure gets revised.

Whatever comes down the pipe will have plenty of people lined up to bitch. I'll pack my stuff and go hunting.

Does anyone know the results of the commission meeting that was supposed to happen on the 18th?

Thanks, does anyone have a summary of what happened? Did the proposed season structure pass?

I bet people start cashing deer points
Yes, and assuming that the deer tag quotas stay about the same, I think a lot of deer are going to get killed in 2021 and 2022 during those rifle seasons with the new dates. I'm imagining some of the 4th rifle hunts I've been on, and with five times as many hunters (now 3rd season during what is tyically 4th) I wouldn't want to be a rutting muley buck.

By 2023 we won’t have to worry about a lot of deer being killed because there won’t be any left to kill. Solid season date choices CPW.

There's no way CPW is going to issue the same number of 3rd season deer tags as they do now with these new dates. Tags numbers will be slashed.

Maybe they will cut back on doe tags, but I bet next year the buck tags are still generous. Their goal is to reduce big buck numbers in the name of slowing the spread of CWD. Not looking good for hunting big bucks 5 years from now

So, there doesn't seem to be a link to it, but the above regs were not the ones that actually passed. Here is a synopsis of what I understand to be the final regs that were passed:

Archery: Sept 2-30 every year

Muzzy: No change

First rifle: No change (5 day season, elk only)

Second rifle. 10 day break after 1st rifle, starts on a SATURDAY (not Wednesday) and is for 9 days (not 7)

3rd rifle: 6 day break, starts on a Saturday and runs for 7 days (ends on a Friday!)

4th rifle: 5 day break, starts on a Wednesday.
