Colorado 2020-2024 BGSS - Final Recommendations Published

Another biggie for lots of us Non-Residents is that 2nd rifle combo season will now open on a Wednesday and run 7 days. Having the weekends on both ends was nice for taking off work.

Other then that doesn’t seem to be much of a change overall except for fewer days for 2nd and 3rd rifle.

Wonder how this affects peoples decision on 1st rifle vs 2nd rifle now...basically have to take two weeks of vacation to hunt a Wednesday through Tuesday season, that sucks.

I think having that season start during the week was a fantastic idea because some folks might have your same thoughts and slide back to the third season if they want to stick with their OTC license.

Still don't understand why they shorted us archery guys one day of hunting, starting the 2nd. Take one day here, and next they'll be taking a week away. Really wanted to see archery deer start Aug 15th for the high country, that way I would actually go deer hunting.....because I'm not taking time off of elk season to hunt deer.

5mile, I agree that it’s a little strange they didn’t start on the 2st, but hunting until the last of September every year sure is sweet. Last year we missed almost a week with the early start. So I guess I’ll give up 1 day to hunt through sept 30 every year.

Oh, I'm all for going through Sept 30th, just would like to hear their rationale for shorting a day.

If I were to take a guess, its because bear season cant start before Sept 2nd. That way several seasons start on the same day. Just a guess tho

As a guy that’s primarily an archery deer hunter this pisses me off. Why are they pushing the deer hunt back too? In some years, archery will have only a week head start to the muzzie guys.

The late start for archery deer sucks. Also after this next 5 year season structure I doubt there will be many mature bucks left to hunt during archery anyway with the new 3rd/4th rifle dates.

Third regular rifle deer and elk combined season shall be the following dates:
• 2020- 11/07- 11/13
• 2021- 11/13- 11/19

• 2023- 11/11- 11/17
• 2024- 11/09- 11/15
• 2025- 11/08- 11/14
• 2026- 11/07- 11/13
Fourth regular rifle deer and elk combined season shall be the following dates:
• 2020- 11/18- 11/22
• 2021- 11/24- 11/28
• 2022- 11/23- 11/27

I like the new archery season. Gives me better options when I draw here in NM. This year I'll be crunched for time.....

If I am reading things right, that would only occur in 2024 and 2025?

Believe he means the weekend before and after it allowing guys to hunt weekend to weekend only using 4 vacation days, only the weekend after would be in season now and those that can’t use much vacation will probably reconsider to a degree.

I suppose me and a pile of Western NRs were probably hoping to see deer start in August. It's an easy decision to hunt high country mule deer in CO when it doesn't cut a week or so out of my MT elk season. However, I think there would be a lot moreguys above treeline in August if elk was still a week or two out. If I was still there in CO I'd be happy about the Sept 30 end date for elk though.

Those are good archery elk dates for sure. Finally we'll be able to hunt until the end of September.

However, I think that archery deer could have started in the middle of August, just like UT and NV.
