Colonoscopy....

About two weeks ago I had my annual physical, Dr. told me my blood work looked real good, indicators which may indicate a problem came back with very low numbers. All the same it has been eight years sine my last colonoscopy so he set me up for one which I will get on April 2nd. I can't wait. The prep work is the worst part.

My prep for the last one (last year) was great as far as prep can go. I don’t recall the name but it was a concentrate. You mix two 16oz doses I think 30 minutes apart. So much better than Go Lightly and other concoctions I’ve had to do.

I don’t do well with propofol for some reason. My doc gave me the option to go light on the propofol so I’d wake up early in the procedure. He’d put me back out if I wasn’t comfortable. Other than the start I got to watch the whole procedure on a big screen right in front of me. I had no issues with after affects with the anesthesia on that one.

Its funny how diffrently people do with drugs. This was my 7th time under GA. I wake up fast and feeling great everytime. No grogginess or fog at all. I was up and dressed and leaving in under 10 minutes.

Yall going under general for the procedure? I turn 50 this year so need to have it done but doc said it's best to go under which I don't like. He laughed and said I wouldn't like the alternative a lot more. Nothing on the schedule yet.

Everybody I know seems to get propofol. Most say it’s like taking a really nice nap. Typically you go under quick and wake up pretty quick.

I did the last one with not going under and it is a pain for certain but in waves so not constantly bad and I survived.
Time before I had a migraine after going under that was not fun.

I'd never been 'under' in my life prior to my scope in '22 (59y/o then). Porpofol was fine, just a weird, relaxed sleep state. I actually woke up feeling great. A bit groggy, but great.

So for next time which route will you choose?
I'm going with the same doc and the short propofol window again later this year. I think he said I was out mby 10 minutes? When he noticed I was getting uncomfortable he told me he'd let some air out which relieved the pain immediately. I don't think a doc would have any idea you were in pain unless you were conscious. I didn't have any side affects with the small amount of propofol on that one unlike earlier checks.
