Hey Brian, yep, just got home. Firstly, congrats on a solid exam, glad you also did this!

Hopefully not TMI here.......for us, wife was perfecto in there, I had two small polyps removed. Doc said they looked benign and very common variety (1 outta 4 @ 50y/o plus have them.)
First time ever being under--propofol for the win--a bit groggy coming around. FIfteen minutes of mild fog, and then all good. Very happy to have peace of mind and the procedure behind us.
Seven years recommended for my next scan, ten for wife.

Hope this thread helps with awareness. The importance can't be overstated.
Had my first this past summer and had 2 small ones as well. When I felt the meds in the IV I thought I should ask when I am supposed to count backwards like on TV so I lifted my head a little to ask and the guy says "You're all done, when you feel like it you can get dressed" I was like WTH!!

I just burn the hell out of my system with a high dose of red or green chile at least once a week 🥵 Lol not sure if it's a good thing or not....

I was there on the table and they start giving me the meds to put me out and I hear him tell the nurse that should be good, all of a sudden I feel sumthin then I screamed out OWW and I clamped the door shut then I hear him tell her "give him another 25cc" I don't remember anything after that. When I came to there were about 5 or six nurses around laughing at me, good thing was I was clean as a whistle

Maybe I'm missing something obvious, but I was unaware there was a correlation between first responders and colon cancer risk.. what's the reason?
There is a much higher occurrence in all first responders of all GI cancers. I'm unsure exactly why and I'm not sure there is concrete answers either.

The two reasons that seem to be cited is shift work and exposures to various chemicals. This is what the doctors tell me and some very minor research.

Good stuff Broomd. Untold numbers of people, one I love dearly, would still be here today if this was a more routine practice 20+ years ago.....my last one was last year. My 3rd one...started when I was in my 30s due to family history, and had polyps removed. The prep sucks, but has come a long way just in the last few years. That Propofol is some good stuff.

Good to get those polyps outta there and know you got a clean pipe. Now bring on the meat! Woof!

I've had 4 or 5. Lost count. First one at 20 due to symptomatic polyps, (44 now). Couple polyps for the next one 2 years later, and then nothing for the last 3 scopes. Most recent one was August of 2021.

The procedure itself can almost be described as pleasant due to the Propofol. It's a hell of a good nap.

The nurse for the most recent scope was an absolute smoke show. Firm 10/10.

The prep isn't all that big of deal other than the taste of that stuff is extremely nasty. After having it so many times, it's literally all I can do to choke that stuff down without puking. I'm going for the tabs next time.

Just did today. I’m an ignore stuff kind of guy but wife kept pushing. Was pretty nervous but honestly the worst was the prep and it wasn’t as bad as I expected. 1 polyp that doc thought was benign. Glad I did it. It’s lights out and you wake up in recovery. Just get it done for yourself and family. And I can’t remember who suggested the wipes but thank you!

Someone educate me. Why is it more of a "thing" for men to have to do this and not women?

Asking honestly. What's the reason?

When you say "thing" are you referring to men being resistant to getting the procedure overall?

Rarely hear women talk about doing it. Usually it's always men that get the publicity for it.

Was wondering if it had more to do with diet, or...

Tomorrow....for both wife and me. Our first. Colon issues run in my family so I'm overdue.
Just chugged round one of the purge juice, good lord--gack! Waiting for the purge now....

Anyone else gotten the probe lately?
Got it two weeks ago.

My doc now uses the "pill" format instead of that crappy orange liquid.

Fast and and that evening, take 12 pills, drink a quart of so of water, let it all come out the other end.

Rinse and repeat at 6am.

So easy.

WAAAY better and easier way to go.

Women get them as well, they probably aren’t as vocal about it.

Colon cancer is the most preventable form of cancer. Put up with the prep and get it done. It sucks but it's only one afternoon and evening then it's over. I've had 7 or so, next one is in 2 years. Not looking forward to it but I will sure as heck do it. I've got a 2 yr old grandson to take on hunts and I want to be around to do it.

Yes, agreed fully with this above. I have had three of them (now age 63). As mentioned by others, the prep is the unpleasant part, and the procedure is no big deal. And when you think of how bad and preventable colon cancer is….well, there is really no excuse for not doing it.

Thanks for reminding me - I too am due. Some doctors are using alternative technology. Will have to see what my Dr says.

The routine ”scope” saved one of my staff’s life. she had no clue she had cancer. It was treated early and she is thriving and free of the big “c”.
