Cold Bow 2026 QnA Thread

Well I finished up and hit just outside the hole again so I went 1/3. Both steel hits were just out of the hole so if I’d done the usual pie plate I would have had 3 kill shots. Both arrows were damaged (one more than the other 😂) but I shot the same Tooth of the arrow 125 grain single bevel for all 3 shots. In a good arrow, that broadhead still spins good after hitting the steel twice.
I have a 30” DL and my bow is about 72 lbs shooting 285 fps with 535-ish grain arrows so there’s a lot of juice going into that BH when it hit the steel.
I’m pretty impressed with these heads.

That is impressive those heads handled that.

You get the trophy for bravery in this year's CBC

@lak2004
thanks for coming out, but you need to copy/paste/fill out table in the rules and edit into your post. Table makes it easier for the mods to qualify you, and for the statistics person.

@MrsHunter welcome to Cold Bow, your pic didn't upload. Please use "edit" button and try again.

@BRTreedogs glad to see you here and you couldn't get much closer to center punch than that! post #79

Reading through the posts, I see lots of archers mentioning how much the day's emotion (tired, rushed, distracted) affects their shots. I agree. And is part of establishing a realistic MER becuase usually shooting at an animal is going to be very emotional.

Looks like there are about 21 slots left to fill.
I re-uploaded the day 1 (and added the day 2) picture. Is it showing up ok now?

Thanks!

How many of you guys have started bringing targets along on hunting trips more often after seeing your performance on this challenge? I never used to and would sometimes be 5+ days between flinging arrows. Seeing how performance can drop off with less practice I bring mine along now and even if it is not a long distance I try to shoot every day or two if I can
always did/have - partially to practice, but also as a way to BS and chew the fat at lunch.
Day or weekend trips by myself its 50-50, but being a trad shooter I always have a field point and will shoot stumps, dirt clods, or whatever while I'm out. Trad bows usually don't bust arrows doing this. Those shots are great at mimicking hunting shots, slow hunting days will sometimes turn into my own little woods walk shoot.
I also usually take a field point shot at something before getting down from the stand in the morning.

Finally got a second shot in the other day. MISS! 🤦‍♂️

If there’s ever going to be a miss, that’s about as good as I’d hope for, but still a miss. It’s been a busy couple weeks here, might be another few days before I can sneak in my third shot.

Thanks to the mods for all the work putting this on again. It’s the official start of summer training for me and a great test.

I get some great ideas for changes to my range from you guys that participate and there are some real shooters out there.

Keep at it. Hunting season's busy for a lot of guys too, working to the last minute so we can leave and then a few days in the field with hardly any practice. That's why we do this.

@thegoosano great shooting, way to nail the CBC! post #87

@TimbeHuntin shooting solid! post #91

@Johnson27 post #90, Yip, why we do it--the wind is the great equalizer. We debated early on what to do on windy days in CBC and decided to keep MER same and archer could pass for a better day (vs stalking in like we might do on a hunt). It's been educational to see just how much we need to stalk in when the wind is near 15+--affects arrow flight and the archer's steadiness.

@sndmn11 thanks for the video! 6.5" is a tiny vital.

Looks like this CBC could fill up this weekend, still about 7-8 slots left

Also guys, I hit the archery range at Blackfoot today. Forgot my RF so just shot it "unmarked" yardage style.

31 arrows, 77% hits on the 8 ring (how I count non-competition range days for many years) so it's just Hits/Misses.

Did a little better than I thought I would. Checking my old score sheets from last year, I was 85% on my first range day.

I thought it would be a bigger difference but still aint giving up my RF!

@Billy Goat I'd have never hit 77% with my previous 454gr (265fps) set up. This 390gr (280-ish fps) {I don't have my journal to check exact fps) we talked about much more forgiving, and almost all of me 23% misses were falling out of/ or shooting over vitals.
