Hey guys,

I'm starting a family vacation in Cody on Friday. I have an buck antelope tag in Unit 80 and my wife and two kids(8 and 5) are joining me. We'll be staying in Powell through Monday night and then we're heading to West Yellowstone. Does anyone have any recommendations for fishing or other activities in the Cody area? My kids are not fly fisherman but are both good with spinning gear and are looking forward to some trout fishing. Some good hike ideas would also be appreciated. Thank you

I mistakenly put this in Mule Deer and I'm not smart enough to figure out how to remove it. If started an new one in the general forum. Thanks

The Buffalo Bill Cody museum is great especially if you are into history. Their gun collection is fascinating. The Lamar Valley in Yellowstone is worth the drive as well. We were there a month ago and saw more wildlife there than anywhere else in the park. Have a great trip!

The North Fork of the Shoshone has been good to me with spinners. If you go thru the tunnels to the west end of Buffalo Bill reservoir and take a left turn by the State park campground, cross the bridge and you will be on Stagecoach Trail. Go up about 2 miles and on the right you will see a 'public' fishing sign. Some good pools there where I've caught nice rainbows. Also, Beck Lake, on the east edge of town on the Greybull Hwy. is good for kids. I'll be there this weekend as well, just not fishing.

I regret only having a half day for the Bill Cody museum when I was there, awesome place.

All good info. I will second the Cody Rodeo. The wife and kids will love it.
Very entertaining. If you are a vet, the Buffalo Bill museum is free.

There is also a Blackwater Natural Bridge about 5 or so miles south of the trailhead at Blackwater creek on the North Fork. Been a long time since I've been in there sheep hunting but a good hike in some great country. Bring bear spray or a heater. We had several grizzly interactions each time we were there.

I showed the wife the rodeo website and I think we're going this Friday which looks like the last day of the year. Thanks for the tip. It will be tough getting the kids up Saturday for the opener but we'll figure it out.
