CO & WY application dilemma - WWYD

You'll beat point creep if you wait on WY, you might not in CO...

I was thinking like most and would hunt WY this year, CO in '27...but CMF is correct...I think WY is much more predictable than CO especially with the big changes coming in '28 I think CO'27 could be a crap shoot.

Now I think I would go CO '26 and WY '27...it's still the same two hunts over next 2 years...but this is much more likely to go as planned for the draws...where as WY'26 then CO'27 has potentially more risk is pulling it off that way.

Regardless...what a great problem to have...good luck either way!

That's drastic and terribly expensive.
Wives have a point system too. When the season is over use all your wife points (and remaining hunt dollars) on something she wants to do.

I would devote my time in 2026 to Wyo and 2027 to Colo. Splitting the time may not be adequate for either.

You’re going to draw WY, so if the worry is two tags, you could always dump the Colorado tag and get your points back if you draw. That is if you don’t want two tags in the same year.

Problem would be that he won’t get a point for this year so could hurt future draw odds in Co. I would hunt the co tag before the big 28 mix up and stack a point in Wyo for a guaranteed hunt next year

I thought of it that same way. But currently at my CO points level it’s about 50% chance at the tag I want (%is my best guess based on last year/historical creep) so it’s not a guaranteed tag. If I don’t draw and at the same time sit out WY then I’ll be OUT on both good tags.
It seems WY Gen-S tag is much more of a guarantee with my 6 WY points.
So I think I’ll do that this year.
I will then look at what CO odds did and if it crept an insane amount where I can’t catch the Muzzy hunt I know I can draw Archery tag in that unit as I’m few points over. I’ll be happy with Bow tag in there as well.
So thinking WY in ‘26 and CO in ‘27
I’ll still have a 2nd choice or leftover CO bull tag for some later season that fits my schedule.

the deal we have is 2 weekends away max every Month during hunt season, Not just 2 weekend’s total for all of ‘26. Usually the way I stack my hunts/seasons I start mid-Aug or Sept with Archery and then rifle/muzzy hunts Oct/Nov/Dec. that’s a lot of weekends away in total

I would never intentionally choose a ML tag over the archery tag for September elk.
