All that it means is that ONE person with zero points got a tag. Not EVERYONE with zero points. Does that make sense? Hold on I'll do the math.

OK. If you look at the drawing summary and find that hunt code, it will show you that 34 Non-Res drew that tag, out of 76 Non-res applicants. Now look back to the hunt recap page you posted. It shows that There was : 1 applicant with 8 points (tag), 1 with 3 and 1 with 2 points (2 tags), 28 applicants with 1 point (28 tags) so that equals 31 tags issued out of the 34 available. After those were given out, 3 tags would have been given to randomly selected applicants out of the 0 point pool, since they were viewed as equal in the points system and there were still 3 tags available when it got down that far. Does this make sense? I hope this helps you understand. You just have to look at a few different files to decipher it all accurately.

Very good explanation, and shows an understanding of how Colorado's statistics can be helpful when you look at all of it combined. One file doesn't give you the whole picture.
Good job.

Wait until you hear a DOW official explain the drawing process for the Goat/Sheep/Moose. You quickly come to the conclusion that you really can't determine your odds of drawing a tag. Fourteen years, and I'm still waiting on my sheep tag :)

Even after you figure it out you can still be wrong, because it only shows what happen last year. No guarantee it will be the same for this year.

very true, but if you look back for a few years you can get an idea of how much it changes from year to year, most hunts stays pretty steady. Other hunts can be pretty sporadic from year to year. Its worth taking a few minutes to look at the previous few years just to see, imo.

Its all about trends. If you watch it you can get a dang good idea for what its going to do. With next year's start of the new 5 year BGSS some stuff is going to change....

As for sheep and goats, treat it like a blind lottery and weigh your odds with hunt quality and you might find you draw sooner than you would think. At least a kid that is 12 and starts applying for the "trophy" species has a chance of getting drawn. Elk, deer and pronghorn "trophy" areas they will never, ever see until something changes.

All of my choices have pretty high success rates at least this year, so I think I'll come out in good shape- OTC Archery Either sex elk, 1st choice archery deer that was 100% for 1st last year, 1 PP for elk and 2nd choice had some leftover rifle cow tags last year. This is my first year in the CO draw, so hoping everything falls into place!

It definitely takes some work to understand all of the info out there...

Are the OTC pronghorn units awful? I have no idea a bout them at all, I considered it but waiting to hear on some private land before I do anything.

I wouldn't say awful, access can be the issue. The majority of the units to the east that hold a lot of lopes are mostly private...and then you look at some of the valid units, like 471 for example...really? Flat out high country units. Commanche national grasslands might be worth a look, But I have never been down there so I really can't say.
