My wife drew a cow moose tag here in Colorado. Plan to use “our” 300 Win Mag and looking to get round recommendations. She’s no stranger to taking animals with this rifle but moose is a first for both of us. Furthest distance will be 300yds.

We have a few 180gr rounds that this rifle shoots well; will that be enough or do we need punch up closer to 200gr? Or is the bullet more important than weight? Any real world advice or recommendations would be appreciated.

last year took a Moose with my 300win mag with a 200gr Federal terminal assent was very happy with performance and accuracy one shot kill at 165 yds
this was my largest and first animal with that bullet and have sense switched my 7PRC and 6.5PRC to them
and taken multiple whitetail deer as far out as 420 yds

180 grains is sufficient on a moose. I've taken a few back in the day with 180 grain Federal and Corelokt soft points, and although they did the job, I would not recommend them. I've since gone to Partitions, and finally settled on Barnes ttsx. A bullet designed for deep penetration placed in the vitals will make for a short tracking job, and that is very important given that moose are often in close proximity to water.
