No bugles south of Salida where I jumped into both sides of the valley. A friend texted me and they are talking north of Durango yesterday. Got another friend up in the Granby area and no bugles there. I am headed north in the morning so hopefully things change soon. I took the whole month off jumping around the state maybe I will pack into the Flat Tops last week.

This past friday had bugles from 5pm on.... called in a small 5x5 who milled around 12 yards from us without a care. The next morning (muzzleloader opener) same story, bugling until sunrise... then DEAD all weekend. Came across 6 muzzleloaders in 2 days. In 3 years I've only run across one archer in my particular area. Not sure how but more than a couple people found my honey hole :(

Nervous about its impact for the rest of the season. Plan B may be in the works come wednesday. Gah!!!

Central Colorado - heard a few half hearted bugles Friday night. Then nothing for the rest of the weekend.

Hunted 9/4 - 9/12 in western Colorado, ~8500 ft. Didn't hear a single bugle all week. Weather was hot/sunny. Didn't see a single elk after 8AM or before 7PM. Were in bed otherwise.

The weather has gotten at least some of them talking. Had one bugling all morning from about 6:45-9:15. There were several screaming last night. Still windy and rainy which is causing them to not really move as much, but that's supposed to end tonight. 8500 ft here BTW.

Found this over on Bowsite. I think theres some truth to it.

Stage 1: "Looks like a late rut this year, bulls should be fired up by now"

Stage 2: "Seems like a weak rut. Bulls should be peaking right now - must have missed it or its gonna hit late"

Stage 3: "Looks like it was an early rut this year, bulls should still be going strong right now"

We just got out after 5 days in central around 9500 ft. 6 in our group and not one bugle heard or bull spotted. There was also a guide doing a personal hunt, and 4 other guys camped in the area, same thing for all of them. It was either hot and sunny or storming where we were.

Around 9/7 we hadn't heard any bugling (didn't hear any all week), but guy told us on the next mountain over a bull already had his harem of cows and was bugling early/late. Around the end of the week, 9/11ish, same guy said folks on his FB feed were complaining that the bulls were going all night and they couldn't sleep. Wish I could have heard it.

I've have been within an hour a few different directions of the Breckenridge area since last Sunday and haven't heard the first bugle or elk. Have about 6 days of hunting in. Seen some decent sign, but just haven't put it together.

I sure had them riled up tonight. Got close to a big herd, threw out a couple cow calls and had 3 bulls (6x6, 5x5 and a 4x4) and a ton of cows. Never saw the cows as they stayed in the trees but I've never heard so many. The herd bull was standing there pacing between 150 and 80 yards out from me just bugling for almost 20 minutes right at dusk. The volume of the bugles was surprisingly low though and he was almost getting drowned out by all the cows. They were quiet this morning, but we were severely fogged in with lots of rain.

Yeah, unfortunately on the wrong side of the fence. The 6x6, 4x4 and a calf came on the right side, but I only have a cow tag. My dad has the E/S tag and was about a quarter mile away. Starting to get desperate as I'm hunting muzzleloader and am down to just a couple days.

Also saw 15 deer (all does, fawns and a 2x2), a coyote, and a chocolate colored bear. All in all a pretty exciting night. Have been in plenty of elk, just anything close enough to shoot ain't legal and anything legal ain't close.

Just got back from U81 in the S. San Juan Wilderness, went in last Fri. and came out yesterday. Heard first bugles on Monday from a group with 3 bulls, same heard was vocal all week (we blew it) but couldn't find any others.

Bow hunters, muzzleloaders, REI crowd and pleasure riders were everywhere.

Been sitting on a group of elk all morning. I watched the bull I am after go into this spot around 9am but have yet to spot him again. He is the one with the long main beams from the video I posted earlier. Passed on a nice 6x7 with a split G2 and a nice 6x6. I hope I dont regret my decision with tomorrow being the last day of ML. They are in a spot where I can't make a move without risking blowing them out, so I am waiting them out. They have been vocal all day so far. Thank goodness for watching raghorns getting chased off and cell reception to help pass the time!

Was at 9-10,700 feet wed-thru this AM and I didn't hear anything or see anything. On the way into town to grab a hotel I was able to see a nice herd of elk with two very nice bulls in it. They were on private property with a nice house in the background bunch of people were stopping on the highway to glass them.

Still debating on if I'll head back out but they got to start being move vocal soon I would think or HOPE.
