Warm and dry so far unless we have a freak storm blow through.
It's been raining and snowing around the state this week and temps are definitely a lot cooler than they were just a week ago. Too bad, I was hoping for last weekends temps.
Not me, I'd prefer a bit of snow friday evening.
I'd prefer to have the elk bugling their brains out, which is what usually happens when you have hot dry weather leading up to 1st rifle season. Once it snows or turns colder, that all goes away usually and it's back to spot and stalk tactics instead of the fun hunting.
I'm taking my daughter up, I'm hoping for some bugling. With a rifle, shouldn't be an issue sealing the deal if they're still responding to bugling. Either way, I'm going to have some awfully excited and then seriously disappointed hunters out there, when they finally close in to see it's me bugling.
It looks like it's going to warm right back up in my area starting Friday. Sunny with highs in the mid 60's and lows in the mid 30's for the entire forecast.
Just got back from a 76 early rifle hunt and elk were still right at timberline and rutting hard. We were on 20 bulls in 2 days and I called in 7 bulls the first day of the hunt to under 50 yds.
This a good thing?
