I don’t have quite the deluxe crampons but hoping the yak trax or snowshoes serve me well, hunting by a buddies house so will have a good report on conditions come Friday

YakTrax are for meant icy sidewalks, under load they tend to slip underfoot especially in snowy mud or steep slopes. They also tend to get pulled off your feet by brush, leading to fun backtracking when you realize you're down one. Treat yourself to an early Christmas gift, I use these more than I do snowshoes. I would rather have these than trekking poles, they are that much of a game changer.

Micro spikes are a good intermediate between yaktracks and crampons. Still get a spike for traction on ice and wet logs, but dont have to deal with the long tines catching on pants and whatnot.

Anyone on this thread can answer me a ? Of ATV n rifle carrying. Is it any type of case that can be locked. Or does it need to be a hard case? Permanently attached?

Read the regulations better. Most questions can be answered. Pg 15 in 2024 big game regs...

8. Carrying loaded firearms (except handguns) on an OHV during deer, elk, pronghorn and bear seasons. Firearms (except handguns) must be unloaded in the chamber and magazine. Firearms (except handguns) and bows must be fully enclosed in a hard or soft case. Scabbards or cases with open ends or sides are prohibited. This does not apply to landowners or their agents who carry a firearm on an OHV to take depredating wildlife on property they own or lease.
