I guess it depends on your cutoff for "too complicated". While I have no interest in a Horus style reticle I also don't want to have nothing but a duplex reticle either. The Nightforce MOAR reticle is my personal favorite. It's not more cumbersome than a duplex but it's much more useful and informative.

The MOAR style is somewhat similar to what Clint Smith prefers…I believe he likes the mil/mil ei TMR reticle

Never even heard of this Smith guy, is he big in long range shooting or something?

He is one of the founders of modern tactical training movements and trains people in a wide range of firearm applications

Other well known firearm trainers often go to him for training

I've been in Montana the last two weeks. Lots of people over there subscribe to the "just fling it at them" killing them is a different story.

I helped with a couple of Colorado rifle hunts this fall, and it is pretty widespread here too.

I didn't realize this clip was from a precision rifle course. In fact, I didn't know Clint did anything but tactical/defensive courses.

John Johnson, I agree on the MOAR reticle, actually the MOAR-T is my favorite due to the fine crosshairs for targets at the outer end of my shooting ability. I like the windage marks in particular, because I typically don't dial for wind.

The video is from medium range rifle class. What Clint means by “just fling it at them” is hitting a 10 inch target at 700 yards while you still have the moment of opportunity. ….thats 1.5 MOA!

He later discussed how guys spend 5-10 minutes playing with scope adjustments, ballistic calculators, and kestrels for a deer only 150 yards away

I like the MOAR as well. I used one to shoot a bull at 50 yds last week at last light in burned out timber. No issues, and when I need windholds for longer stuff I have them.
If more people would go out and shoot what they have as fast as they can in hunting positions in the off season they probably wouldn't be as confused with their system.
