As a buyer, if I can save ANY money over retail on something in new condition, how is that not a win?

For me, there is a cost associated with the hassle and risk of dealing with some anonymous dingdong seller on the internet and a 5-10% discount over retail doesn't get me over that hump.

I've bought and sold a lot of stuff on here; 60-65% of retail, shipped TYD, is the price range I've found that gets items sold with the minimum amount of foolishness. And that's still assuming that it's an item people want.

There is notable 'average' pricing differences between several online buy/sell forums... for similar items

At the end of the day - places where you can buy cheaper, means when you want to sell something, you also have to list it cheaper.

Every once in a while, there are some smoking deals. Like the guy that sold 3 SWFA scopes in less than 10 mins.

People are free to ask what they would like, and people are free to offer what they like, but I always find it easier when selling to price things competitively for a fast sale. High asking prices lead to having to bump the listing, wading through offers, people flaking. You price things right and you have it sold same day and move on with life.

Same. My time is valuable. I recently got rid of a couple vehicles and a bunch of other stuff (not on here). All sold fast, most within 24hrs. Could I have gotten more out of every item? Certainly. I also didn’t haggle over any of it, and generally ended up selling to the first response. I take that back, there was an attempted haggle. Item listed for $20 (probably worth 75-100). Person shows up, asks if I’ll take 15. I say sure. They ask if I have change for a 20. I tell them to get the hell out of my driveway. 🤣

Again…less is less.
As others have also said, I’d rather give it away to someone I know than to make a lopsided deal on the interwebs with a ding dong buyer that I don’t know. So I get it.

Asking price is not necessarily the sales price. Send a PM. Worst thing they can say is "No"
You pretty much have to ask for high prices. I can't remember the last time I tried to sell something and didn't get lowballed. Figure out what you want for it, then bump the price up so when you negotiate you and with what you wanted.

I started blocking lowballs, I don't even get back to them, just block them.

I do that when selling pickups, bikes an such. ..Most things on a forum, price is the price. Take it or leave it

Flipside is a reasonable deal and some dick asking 50% off including shipping and associated costs

My favorite NO Trades in as big a letters you can use.

First post:

"Hey you looking to trade anything?"

Outside an item that is known to hold its value over time, that seems like a reasonable place to start with an offer.

If I'm not getting 50% off most items or at a minimum 25% off the best price I can find on items that hold their value, buying used isn't worth the potential headaches.

The days of the great deals seem to be gone. When I’m listing stuff, I want it gone, so I price accordingly. Even then, I still get “what’s your bottom dollar?” almost every time.

I buy a lot here, but am always hesitant to sell much of anything unless someone posts that they are interested in buying something specific that I might happen to have that I could part with. Even then, I am usually wasting hours taking pic's and sending them and having conversations with what really is a tire kicker even though my price was very good. I think I had just one person that actually followed thru on a hard to find rifle he was looking for, for years that I wasn't even looking to sell...just mentioned it on a post outside of the classifieds.

Matter of fact, I have a very extensive rifle and handgun collection that I am in talks with to consign with an on-line gun dealer, parting with about 80% of it...at least 60 pieces. I know I'm kind of doing a disservice to the RS clan but it's really not worth the headaches to list them here as I see very nice guns/optics listed at decent prices and everyone wants shit for unreasonable discounts, and shipping a gun is expensive. 40-50% off retail for a like new item? Where's the respect guys? Yeah, I know inflation is taking a toll, but it is on everyone....buyers and sellers. Be reasonable in your dealings.

I almost rip a poster a new ass when his post was basically....hey, if you are hard up for cash I am looking to buy such and such for cheap. So disrespectful the moderators should have banned the guy. I wanted to comment but I know and obey the rules of engagement here.

Best thing we can do here is treat each other with respect since what goes around comes around. Stating RS members in good standing are ding-dong sellers on the internet? I wouldn't sell that guy a glass of water in the desert of he offered $100.

Exactly.
I think it is a 'I can get the better of this" game for some folks kinda like some drivers who need to be in front of everyone else at the next red light..
