Classified prices

Is it just me or are the prices in the classifieds high?? Used barrels for $100 less than new. Factory actions and barrels in a $600 stock for close to $2000 etc etc.
Covid is over folks! We can buy the things you have off the shelf again. Rant over

I've noticed that on lots of sites, FB etc. People selling things for just under what it costs new. My mind always says...."I may as well buy it new...get warranty too!"

While I tend to agree with you, it is a self correcting problem. Those are generally the ads that have pages of bumps back to the top and no offers.
A quick google of the item will show best price of new, which comes with warranty in a lot of cases, and one can make a decision if it's worth it.
At the same time, there are folks who love to try every piece of gear and sell things like new for good prices.
Just remember, commenting on a classifieds price is a no go. Don't agree? Walk on.

I think that good deals are fewer than in the past but I also notice that folks want to buy used stuff that is new....if it is an older gen or has a few patches no one is interested on here...
I have seen things priced a bit high and they do not sell even after the seller eventually drops the price to an amount that would have sold in a day.
I think the herd mentality = no one else purchased this so I better stay away.
Maybe someone should do a podcast on selling/buying used stuff and tell the herd what to do.
The important thing is never say anything about a price on a sale thread as T4longgun pointed out.

Seems like Good priced Kowa, Swaro, maven, Sitka, Kuiu, Swfa, higher end archery releases and gear, the big three packs, all sell fast.
One off odd ball brands seem like they sit around.

Lead time on new barrels seems to make people proud of what they have used.

I also notice know one cares about tax and added shipping when buying new and trying to sell it for what they paid .

I always figure at some point xyz item will be minimum 20% off new so a lightly used items needs to be 30-40% off new,

I think its generational a bit too. I guess I'm getting old but it seems to me that many now days think their stuff is gold! Its used....do you want to sell it or not. I think sellers need to do better research sometimes too? I have seen used things for sale that are more expensive that it is new. They don't realize the same item new, is on sale somewhere.
On the flip....many try to low ball and get stuff stupid cheap and make joke offers. I guess it comes down to ask what you want....keep lowering until sells.

A barrel may be a 10-12 week (or more) wait also - a lightly used one now may solve an immediate need

I've noticed this for sure, been looking for some swaro 15's most people list them for 1700, I can get them brand new right now for 2,000. each to their own but if I'm going to buy used from a forum it needs to be a good enough deal to make the risk of a sight unseen unknown transaction worth it

you're always able to make an offer.

I see it with Kifaru stuff all the time. Just make an offer if you don't like the price. as long as it is a reasonable offer someone will likely take it

People are free to ask what they would like, and people are free to offer what they like, but I always find it easier when selling to price things competitively for a fast sale. High asking prices lead to having to bump the listing, wading through offers, people flaking. You price things right and you have it sold same day and move on with life.

I see that with real estate prices around me all the time as well. Just saw a home pop up yesterday on 2.5 acres of nothingness, 4700 sq ft......$1.75M. SMH

If you don't like used prices, then buy new.

If no one pays the price, then the seller must either hold on to the item or lower the price.

I have literally given things away rather than sell to a skinflint looking for a deal.

Is the $2000 new include tax and shipping?

I bought some 15s in here a few months ago for $1500, some just sold for $1600

I think people also should trade more it’s worked out great for myself.

Of course - buyer and seller and pricing and negotiating, voluntary, capitalism, etc, etc.

But it still feels good to hear someone say "Hey, quit with this dumbass pricing and get a clue."

Im for the below market first price listing price that eliminates the need to interact with folks that are soul searching, want to meet halfway just to consider the purchase or spend an hour on the phone discussing the properties of green versus purple lens coatings, etc.

One listing that catches my eye when it gets bumped was posted 3 months ago 20% higher than new cost and it’s been reduced and bumped 4 times and is currently the same as cost of new.

Folks on here are moving towards the best gear so if you’re discarding the inferior counterpart of an upgrade it might do better on another forum or eBay. It may not move at any price on this forum.

As others have said, make an offer.
As a seller, I’ve sold things listed for what I consider a fair price, and I’ve had things sit when they were well below retail. I’m not a salesman, I’m just trying to get a bit back on my purchase without giving it away, especially if it’s in new or like-new.

As a buyer, if I can save ANY money over retail on something in new condition, how is that not a win? I just bought a pile of expensive brass for $5/box less than retail and I’m pretty happy.

When is wanting something cheaper not fair to the seller?
