Classic American meals

Can't get much more American than BBQ- classic dinner for much of the South.

-Boston butt (shoulder roast)-> dry rub with salt, pepper, whatever else floats your boat and smoke until it is falling apart
-I like a vinegar heavy sauce (lots of options on the web if you look into "Carolina style bbq sauce"
-Baked beans
-Coleslaw

Yeah the american bbq thing has really taken off here in the past few years there popping up all over. Definitley been getting into abit of it myself
 
Smoked meat is a favorite in my household...beef brisket, pulled pork, ribs.

Slow cooked pork (ham hocks, bacon ends) and beans is another staple for us. Sometimes I use lesser/tougher venison cuts instead of pork. Garnish with raw onion and hot sauce for a little extra kick.
 
Chocolate gravy, cowboy biscuits, sausage gravy, pork tenderloin, eggs, and bacon. With a side of strawberry freezer jam is about my perfect meal when I want to splurge.
 
Im going to have to work out what country ham is 😂. Are the beans and onions fried aswell or raw?
The pintos are cooked with fatback or bacon until they’re soft. The onions are raw and put on as a condiment.

Country ham is a dry cured ham that is salty and a touch sweet. Think grainy dry prosciutto but usually sliced thicker.

Coleslaw is shaved cabbage with a milk/mayo/sugar/vinegar/salt/pepper dressing

Thanks! Coleslaw i did know thats very common here cant say im a big fan but
 
Also do some of you guys just use white gravy exclusively on everything or is there a general rule on when to use white or brown? Only recently discovered white gravy its one of my new favourite things

Ya the white sausage gravy with lots of black pepper is my favorite. I dont know if there's any rules, but it seems like generally on biscuits it's white gravy, lots of times chicken fried steak uses white gravy. I'm not sure what the brown gravy goes on other than mashed potatoes or some meats, like steak or meatloaf.

Yeah usually brown gravy goes on roasts and things here
