Chop, thread with permanent adapter

I've seen a few barrels that "appear" to have a bell at the end so that 5/8-24 threads can be used with direct mount. I'm considering chopping my Tikka low light setup to 16" and have this done. Here is a pic of what I'm talking about or something similar. Are these barrels turned down or is that truly an adapter? This is my box stand rifle, and shots rarely get pass 100-150 yards if I line him up between trees.

Some are adapters, but if you send it to Kampfeld, what he does is thread 5/8-24, but does it long. Then he threads a collar on and profiles the collar.

Either way it is a great way to set up a sporter barrel for a suppressor.

Very nice. I figure if I cut the stock barrel down to 16" - 18", the added length of the suppressor will put me back or just longer than stock. But I do like the idea of a permanent tapered shoulder. I actually just saw a video on YouTube that did it. Simple in terms.

I have 2 that are chopped down and have adapters on them. Works fine.

For the purposes you describe i think chopping it down to 16 regardless of caliber is a great idea. It will be so much more handy when you screw a can on the end

Yeah by doing it that way, it will allow me to swap back and forth to my 20" CTR. I could swap my SB Polar to the CTR, but at 27" with the can on for hunting low light, but why. It's kinda tough to get out my shooting windows being that long. Plus the lite is my Low light setup anyway, so not far shots.

This is a 16" suppressed

Not a whole lot of length difference.

What he did for two of mine.Looks great.

There might be enough meat at 16 inches to go straight 5/8 on a tikka but I’m not sure. Otherwise an adapter works just fine I chopped my super light right at the flutes about 20” and had an adapter installed no problems.
