Choose my next calibre!

If it were me I would go with a 300 WM. You can load 150's to 2XX's. Will kill anything in N. America as well. Plus a ton of guys take a 300WM to Africa for plains game. to me if a guy were to have a .243, .270, and a 300 WM you would be set for anything.

keep em coming!

I should also say flat shooting, I like to set it and forget it as much as I can as far as scopes

I'd probably look at a 243 except I'm not sure how I would feel shooting a black bear with it, I feel like there is not much room for error with the 243

Have shot a few black bears with the 243 and 100 grn interlocks. All behind the sholder shots, and damage looked very similar to 130 interlock out of a 270. All inside of 100 yards, and all had good sized exits

Since you reload you have a lot of options for the short mag barrel burners and other less popular fun calibers too. Also, I would consider the 280ai.

To follow my previous comment and @MuleyFever quote above. With owning a 300 win Mag for so long - 1) It’s very difficult to justify a different rifle unless it’s VERY different. 2) the only other gun I’ve wanted for the last 6 years is an ultra light 280ai.

Do like i did...stay with a shorter action and go 300 WSM. Then develop a medium game load and a big game load.

k so I am really down to the 7mm and 300wm.....the 270 is in there as well due to modern bullets its pretty much on par with the 7mm as far as numbers go on the internet

I do prefer a lighter recoiling rifle, but I would not say I am recoil shy hmmmm

The 7 rem mag is a pussy cat compared to a 300 in terms of recoil. I shoot Barnes 140 ttsx and 145 lrx in mine just over 3,100fps and its strikes everything down like the hammer of thor. It shoots reasonably flat and there are plenty of factory ammo choices as well as reloading components. The barnes bullets don't cause a lot of meat damage like some claim the 7 mag does and you can step down in weight to get better velocity. The little 140's have killed everything from fox to grizz for me and have done it very well.

I have had both, 7RM and 300WM. I can shoot the 7 all day but just couldn't deal with the 300. I'd get a 280ai if the 6.5 doesn't float ur boat.

I’d go 6.5cm, it’ll be fine for everything but moose. Ammo is cheap even if you reload and it’ll be perfect for deer and bear.

Whole lotta love for .277.

My 7RM shoots 160 gr bullets @ the same velocity/trajectory as my 270win w 150 gr,, out to 400 yds. In reality all I gain w the 7 over 270 is either 10 gr of bullet weight/same trajectory, or 100 yds/100 fps w same bullet weight. The cost of that extra 10/100/100 is significantly more noise and recoil, which in my case means a heavier gun in 7RM.

7 has a little better selection of heavier bullets available. However, you can get .277 in 160 NP and 180 Woodleigh Weldcore. 140 AB is my all-around choice in 270, though I have 160s on hand. I'd like to try a mono 130 gr as well.

300 wm has served me well and many others to, seems like the perfect all around caliber for almost all north American game. That being said the 7rm is a good round as well, i've had my best luck with 165gr Barnes vor-tx

stick with your 308 or get a NEW 308, you seem to like it and feel comfortable with it - Get a Kimber HUNTER in 308 or a Mountain Ascent if you've the $$$ - You could always get "tricky" and try something different ? Get a 308 in the RIFLE YOU LIKE and send it down to J.E.S. in Cottage Grove OR to rebore to a 338 Federal - Have you seen the velocities the Alliant Powder website is posting with that cartridge, it rivals my 338.06 AI !

Pages "magic" combo was a 175 gr bullet leaving the muzzle at 3000 fps but that was a long time ago and a lot of new bullet / powder / primer developments since then ….. BULLET technology being the biggest of the three I think, EVERYTHING HAS CHANGED

I’d go another route. I’d buy a very fine muzzleloader and open up a whole other set of season options. The 308 does everything you’ll need done.

308 is super versatile. Good call. I'd hit something on upper limit of the cartridge.y vote is 300 win mag, 7mm mag, or 338 edge if you don't mind being a little weird lol.
