Chest Holster Debate

+1 for Vanandi

I have been carrying my pistol on my pack belt for the past few years because I had trouble getting the common chest holsters to work for me. Got a Vanandi holster for my marsupial gear bino harness. Definitely the solution I was looking for. Great customer service and product.

I don’t have any experience with chest rig/bino harness gun rigs. I think it’s too much up too.

I run a drop leg, or a safari quick latch on my belt when in the woods.

I finally got around to taking a picture of my Gunfightersinc bino link setup. Its fairly new, so it doesn't seem like a lot of folks have heard of it. No extra straps around you at all and it doesn't have to be behind the bino harness.the draw stroke is a kittle different, but it's not bad and you should train with a new setup regardless. That's an FN510 Tactical with PMM comp and Holosun EPS.20250314_175101.jpg

I'm a big fan of a Kydex holster mounted to the bottom of my Marsupial bino pouch. That way if I want to drop/add a warming layer, I don't have 2 sets of straps to undo. I can drop my pack and still have my pistol on me, and it's too easy to put on.

For non hunting activities like fishing and hiking, I have a Hill People Gear kit bag that can carry a full sized pistol and doesn't scream "gun."

I’ve used both of them and will take the Recon from Invader hands down.

Better made holster and more comfortable in my opinion. No issues carrying a Staccato XC with X300 and RMR HD.

I’ll sometimes run a T&K bino harness over top of it. Works well.

Well worth the money.

I have two tanker holsters from El Paso Saddlery. Liked the one I got for my 1911’s so much I got another for my Alaskan.
Not exactly a chest holster but works great in the woods with a pack on.

I have my gunfighters Kenai holster under my bino harness. Very comfortable and the gun is always right there. Even when I take my pack or bino harness off. It is one extra piece to take off when shedding a layer, but that’s not a big nuisance. it works well for me.

I have had a Kenai for years. Bought a Recon for my new gun and it is much better than the Kenai in fit and finish. Recon is 100% made in the USA.

I would suggest Invader Concepts all the way.

Been using the Hill People bag with a bino pouch on the front. It’s not the best holster or the best bino pouch, but it carries everything with one harness comfortably. Also sometimes it’s nice to have the firearm concealed. If I was hunting griz country I would probably want quicker access to my pistol

I use the HPG for hiking and general carry in the woods if I'm not glassing. Really like it for that. I just can't do the double stack pouch for binos. When I'm hunting I've come to really like the Marsupial bino pouch with a Razco hanging under it.

This is what I use for average 4 shooting days per week. The Razco ROMR lets me move the pistol from under bino harness, to pack waist belt, to regular pants belt in seconds.

Razco is also a Rokslide sponsor and small business so I’d recommend folks check out the ROMR.

I haven't used any of the modular functionality but definitely appreciate the option. I have gotten so used to wearing my bino harness I just leave it there as an always on kind of thing. I would like a belt attachment for camp use.

Yeah mine pretty much lives in the bino harness 24/7.

If I am using my 8x33s, I will use my Kifaru Steelhead. I actually used that in AK last year moose hunting with my G29 in the conceal carry pocket.

Can a guy shoot his bow with this setup?

Glad you like your Recon. We work hard to put out the best possible product available. And its 100% made in the great state of Montana.

I have the Savage Thread Works Beast Adapter which allows me to put most any holster for any gun directly behind my existing bino hanress.

I already have straps for my pack and my bino hanresss, I didn’t want another layer of straps under my bino harness to have take on and off. Additionally with a stand alone holster/rig, it seems like if you have to a whole ‘nother rig if you want to carry a different gun, which can get expensive.

With the Beast Adapter I can add or remove holsters for different guns and adjust the angle and depth I want the grip sticking out, Additionally, I can easily move the adapter and holster to a different bino harness if I want.

I used the Beast adapter last season with Alien Gear holster for a p365 behind an AGC bino harness and it worked well. It’s pretty versatile.

This.

i open carried in alaska while hunting small game or fishing with chest holster (kydex) a ruger gp100 and a g19x but i never tried with a pair of binocs but i do not know if i will be confortable with having both but im certainly of the ones with less experience as i was only allowed to do so in alaska and not permitted to do so in my own country ... i will say we tried side carry but did not work when fly fishing.
