Realized it’s been way too since I’ve seriously done any archery practice.

can shoot in a safe space at a distance of about 5 yards all the time.

don’t want anything expensive or large, it’ll be used for the next 2-5 months only and then donated.

would something like a morell yellow jacket crossbow discharge target work?

Same boat, I use a cardboard box stuffed full of plastic bags and shrink wrap with 3 or 4 layers of foam mats like you see on daycare floors shrink wrapped to the front. It's taken way more abuse than any block target I've ever bought and is still going strong, I had expected to have to make a new one within a few months but it's 2+ years later, I never got that much shooting out of a block.

Pretty much as tight as you can get em in there but I find the foam does a good job of slowing the arrows down enough that they don't go in too deep, my bow is just under 70# with a 28" draw...without the foam though I can't pack it tight enough to stop my arrows cold for more than 30 shots or so before I have to open it up and move the bags around to stop them from burying to the nock. I may have moved the foam pieces around once in over 2 years on this one but other than that it's super low maintenance. I went with a big one since this is still my prototype and I wasn't sure how effective it would be, think mine is 29" deep but I would say you could probably get away with 18" just put at least 4 layers of foam on the front, 6 would be even better. My arrows are 28" and I usually have 8-12" sticking out of the target

Third hand archery rag bag. Fill it with old clothes. Nothing cheaper and it will definitely stop anything you can throw at it. When it gets shot out, just get another cover.

Not that 10$ is a huge difference but the morrel yellow jacket target is only 15$

It's not even close. You will wear out the burlap a lot faster. One rag bag will last year's if you spread the shots around the target.

not looking for a years worth. If I was honest, 2-300 shots would be fine. I don’t have any extra clothes to fill the bag with anyways so I got to factor that in as well.

I’ve been shooting a delta mckenzie speedbag 20/20 at about 5 feet in my basement the past month. Works for me and under 30 dollars.

The question is whether a burlap sack would last 2-5 months, which is the OP's timeframe.
