Cheap "do all" 22 bullet

I've got a ruger american ranch in 223. This thing gets shot alot and I've grown to love it, even though the action,trigger, and stock is terrible. Grabbed a tikka 223 this summer and I've been using it as a trainer to 500 yds with the heavier bullets.
This ruger never did shoot the heavy bullets well. I've tried 73eldm, 77tmk, 75aac black tip, and some 77smk. Heaviest it has shot well, is reman 69gr freedom munitions.

What's everyone's opinion on some cheap, easy to load for, lighter weight 22 bullets? It will mainly be used for plinking and target shooting to 3 or 400 yds. Secondary use would be for my wife to use for deer under 200 yds. Maybe an occasional coyote.

I load a ton of 69gr rmr bullets for my general shooting and was slamming rocks out past 400 this summer consistently. I have a bunch of 77tmk bullets I can load if I decide to hunt with it and I also have a bunch of 55 varmegeddon loaded ready for coyotes behind the house this winter.

I'd like to stick to one load with this one or else I would start experimenting with all sorts of bullets for different uses. Then ill have more clutter on the reloading bench then i already do. Never heard of an rmr bullet. I'll have to check it out.

50 or 53 grain v-max, And a stiff charge of benchmark. Accurate to 500+. Great for varmints and plinking. Killed a pile of pigs and deer with head and neck shots. 50 grain shoots better in most rifles I have tried. 53 grain has a bit better bc if your rifle likes them.

Anyone have experience with the aac 62 gr? I load their 75gr in the tikka with luck.

Maybe worth looking into.
BC probably isn’t the best for your distance practice, but I think at 200 yards and in it would be very effective on game. IMO.

This. I ran 69smks in my 9twist 223 exclusively for plinking until the 69tmk came out. For me the 69tmk does everything I want when I’m toting this rifle. Imo you don’t get a “do-all” bullet at a low price point normally but I guess that really depends on your definition of a do-all bullet.

If I'm shooting lighter weight bullets in a 223, it's generally a 50 vmax. My standard cheap practice bullet has always the Hornady 75 bthp for a long time, though I've been shooting a lot of 73 eldms lately because I've gotten them for couple pennies more each.

If you wanted to shoot a cheap midweight bullet, you might try the 69 grain from RMR. Their 75 grain bullet didn't shoot great for me, but I've heard good things about their 69 grn. At 15 cents each, the price is tough to beat.

Speer 50gr. TNT. I committed in full to these last year for this very reason. They're target accurate and explode like grenades on varmints. That handles both needs for my .22's quite well. I got them from Midway for about $11/100, IIRC.

I’ve always shot the Hornady 55gr btsp as a cheap lightweight bullet. Or the Hornady 75gr bthp when wanting something heavier. Both are easy to find in bulk in my experience.

Sierra tmk shoot really well in my 1/9 twist 223 and do a good job killing coyotes .

Hornady 68 BTHP has treated me well within 600 yards. I stack them deep when I find them for $15-$19 per 100.
