708, 140NBT handloads. .MOA great goat deer round not as flashy as 6.5CM but does the job easily past what I can hold. Killed nice buck 4 yrs ago at 437 lying down. What's everyone using on Antelop these days? I used my 270 Winchester 11 years ago, but opted for a very accurate 280 this year with 168 LRX this year. My hunting partner used his 257 Roberts. with 115 Nosler Ballistic tips. We shot 5 antelope this season, for 6 tags. Not bad.
Ive used the sst from my 257 Roberts on several whitetail does. It absolutely hammers them..25-06 - also is my deer rifle. I have enjoyed the round and am confident with it. The rifle really likes the old Hornady Custom 117gr interlock - which has proven successful many times. I've looked at the SST [used that round on one pronghorn] and GMX as well.
Pronghorn is a great hunt.
I had one of those does do the same thing. Rear up and flip over. Only animal I've ever had that happen to.^^^^ Agreed @lyle_destroys.
The one pronghorn I referenced was a hard quartering away shot at 184 yards. Bullet entered just nicking the last rib on the right side; separated the diaphragm; tore up a tip on the liver; sheared those last three nearside ribs off at the backbone; tore a tip of the near lung; obliterated the far lung to unrecognizable; exited just at the armpit of the left shoulder. Surpisingly the exit hole was about the size of a nickel is all - no meat loss to speak of except at the entry/exit points of the ribs/flank. The pronghorn stood there locked up for about 3 seconds, reared up and did a back flip on the spot never moving.
I figured it would be fine, especially since I don't plan on taking any shots over 300.My buddy shot one in 2016 with a 60 grain 22-250 from 300 yards . It reared up like a bronco, stumbled about 30 yards fell over deader than a hammer. Itll work just fine . They are smaller critters than you think .
