Check the crown for burs using a q tip, verify the barrel is free floated if you haven’t yet.

I have not used the q tip method for burrs but I can check it. Looking at it with naked eye and through borescope looked ok. Barrel is confirmed to be free floating now. When I received it back from the gunsmith it was making contact. It was visible where he removed some of the wood to attempt to float it but did not succeed first try.

Depending on your shooting discipline you may need substantial clearance in the channel.

Follow up to the initial issue of poor accuracy. After opening up the rear action screw hole to alleviate the stress the gun was shot with acceptable accuracy at 100 yards (1 week ago). Cold bore shot at 400 yards today and first impact on edge of 10" circle. Second shot within 10" circle. Hoping all is good now for my dad so he can get his confidence back in his favorite rifle.
