Hey guys I just finished my 308 back country rifle, i did everything myself, no gunsmith needed, super easy with the prefit barrels these days. I started to build this rifle back In January with the hopes of using it this season in the back country. The stock took 14 weeks to get to me and the barrel took 6.5 months.

here’s a break down of weights and parts

AG composite Privateer Stock 25.2 oz
20” Carbon six Featherweight barrel 40.8 oz
SS Rem 700 SA - no bolt- trigger and action only 17.3 oz
Rem 700 bolt Machined by the polished knob 11.85 oz
Hawkins precision bottom metal, spring, bolts , follower 5.65 oz
Recoil lug 1.35oz

Total rifle weight With out scope and rings
102.15 oz

Leupold 6hd 3X18-44mm 21.3 oz
Talley low profile rings 2oz

final rifle weight with everything is 7.8 pounds

the stock and barrel quality are the best I’ve seen, very impressive. The thing shoots dimes all day long very impressed. Check out the pics

o and the cost of the rifle without scope was 2250.

Thats a nice looking rifle - congrats! How are you liking that stock?? I almost went that direction on a recent build and do really want to try one, weight is right on the money!

Thanks, I really like it, it just screams quality, very robust, and the drop in for action and bottom metal wasa perfect fit.

That’s a beautiful rifle!!! How did you get the headspace without a barrel nut and the 700 action???

carbon six machines thier barrel threads and recoil lug to meet the exact head spacing tolerances for a stock rem700 action. I was also a little unsure about this so I got a set of go no-go gages and check it to make sure and it was perfect.

Curious as to the quoted wait time for your barrel? I am past my time at this point and dreading having to wait another few months.

Thx

Carbon six quoted me a 4-5 month lead time, then they said COVID impacted thier production delivery times and that was the cause for the delay. 4-5 months to make a barrel is insane and poor business management in my opinion.

Bartlein is 4-5 months out on their new alloy. Helix6, hells canyon armory, I've been waiting for a carbon wrapped mullerworks for over 3 months. 4 months is pretty coming right now. Waited 4 months for my last ag composites stock. Defiance machine will take 4-5 months on an action, same as Bat machine. So ridiculous you will say, but unless you're ordering an in stock item from a vendor, there are very few items in the rifle build that'll take less than 3 months. If you order a stock from manners, you're looking at 9 months. Good luck with you're future builds getting done in less than 3-4 months, especially if ordering the components directly from the manufacturers.

What kind of weight were you seeing between a steel featherweight contour and the carbon when you planned the build?

They told me 2-3 months when I ordered yesterday. I’d assume they’re catching up on orders so you shouldn’t have to wait much longer.

So you just threaded that shouldered barrel straight onto a factory Remington action and the headspace was legit?

I called and asked them about this, and they said they've been having good luck with it. They'll even cut it to headspace with their lug if you buy one with a barrel. I will definitely be checking headspace if I decide to do it though. Sounds like they've only had a couple that required slight tweaks by customers' smiths.

Where did you get the bolt? Is it the Rem bolt that you had fluted or a custom one? Also how much?

congrats on it coming together. I put together my first one with a buddy and am already working on another!

Yeah I ordered their lug with the barrel, then I ordered a set of go no go gauges.

Is a rem bolt that came with the action, And “The polished knob”did all the work You can find him on Instagram, he super fast like a it only took a week. I got The bolt vortex fluted, shroud fluted, skeletonized the handle, threaded the handle, knob, and cerakoted, for 260

Very intriguing no doubt about it I have a model 7 that may have to go under the knife
