Looking to reduce weight in a 6mm ARC build. Looking at :

Faxon Streamline Carbon Fiber 15" M-LOK

Jag SFH AR-15 Handguard 15in

Both are under 8oz. Wondering if one is better than the other. Or if there is a better option for an 8oz handguard. Thanks for the input.

I’ve never used a carbon fiber hand guard, it’s an interesting concept.

I don’t know if you could go wrong with either one.
I haven’t ever used one either. I want to use a heavy Saturn barrel, so I am going to go with the carbon fiber hand-guard to offset the weight.

Make sense to me, especially if you hang a suppressor off the end of your barrel.

I'd be curious on the durability of a carbon fiber hand guard with it being attached to bipods/tripods in different weather.
I do shoot supressed. I am leaning towards the Faxon in case there are any issues. I trust they would take care of it.

Heard good things about JAG. No first hand experience with Cf hand guards except for with a KAW Valley CF pcc handguard. They aren’t setup for a gas tube though. Other options are brigand arms and smoke composites. I have a smoke composites CF buttstock. It’s a nice piece.

I'm sure it's handguard design dependent. Mk12 handguard is carbon fiber and I haven't seen anyone question durability as factor worth considering in that case.

FYI I have and use JAG, but not in an AR.

I designed a lightweight hunting chassis and used their hanguard for the build. It's a very nice handguard built by a very knowledgeable (and good) person.

Definitely two thumbs up for JAG.

I was shopping for a carbon fiber hand guards a couple years ago to drop some weight off my night time rigs.

When the smoke cleared, I went with these from Dark Hour instead, made with a combination of magnesium & aluminum.

Interesting, I had not seen those before. How have they held up?

My buddy built a light weight AR10 build and believe he used one from Brigand Arms... don't think you can get much lighter, but also don't see it being extremely durable given the design, though will admit is was sturdier than I anticipated.
