I was speaking with my Canadian buddy a couple days ago.
During our conversation he told me that the most conservative Canadian is still fairly liberal. I’m still laughing

I do not think that the Border will reopen for about a year yet. Our Prime Minister has stated that he does not want it open until we have been vaccinated. Then we have the problem of supply of vaccines that has been bungled greatly by the same Prime Minister. We keep hearing everything is on track for Canadians wishing to be vaccinated by September but it is as of yet not happening. My family and I really miss being able to cross into Montana. We are only about one hour North of the Border.

I still hold out some little strand of hope for this year. Case numbers are dropping dramatically hospitalizations and death rates are on the decline. However now the governments are turning fear towards the new variants and the next wave.
Unfortunately there will always be a new strain of the virus. to manipulate and scare the masses. Governments around the world found their huckleberry.

The sickening part is the exorbitant amount of money that was given to the Canadian economy with no guarantee that I’ll ever be able to receive services for what I paid for. If the hunting industry drowns because of this Americans will never be able to collect what was lost. That is criminal.

Our case numbers are declining yes America didn’t do the best job with containing the virus but we are rolling out vaccine now at a steady rate yet there seems to be no interest in talks about a way forward. I know there is a cross border council meeting currently but I will be curious to hear what their recommendation is for reopening. I’m sure it will be long drawn out and with no benefit to the economy

Just spoke a outfitter friend up in Canada. Word is that they want to keep border closed through summer and possible til end of year. This has zero to do with public safety. Interesting that thousands of Canadians were allowed into the US to go to their winter homes in the US but they refuse entry into Canada. If this was such a dire health emergency this would not have been allowed just like the 15,000 allowed to attend the super bowl during this deadly deadly pandemic. Its a joke.

No doubt. My outfitter will probably not wait till the end like this past year. All the people that were to hunt with him last year are paying a rollover fee because he had to mobilize his camps due to the lack of communication. He will most likely call it in the spring if there is no positive plan. Which is totally fine with me. Whatever helps him survive to the next year so I can go on this trip I’m fine with. I just find it to be a joke that this is now a political chess match because of a strained relationship. Both governments being willing to sacrifice the financial well being of their citizens for political gain

I think you are way off base here. Canada is not playing chess with its border closure. Canada is afraid of this virus and does not want to let American's in because of the virus, it really is that simple. Heck, there are people out there crying for essential service workers to be locked out. They want our food supply to be cut off to keep the virus out.

As an American, you do not have rights here in Canada, so it is very easy to say "No American's allowed in". However, it is much harder to say "Canadians you are not allowed to leave". Locking in your own citizens is much harder to do.

So explain this-- I just read a short blip that Aaron Rodgers spent Valentine's Day weekend visiting his girlfriend/fiance' in Montreal. Not that I care, but how did he get into Canada?

It’s just my opinion. No offense intended. There are different angles to look at this I just don’t personally feel like motives of either one of our governments are strictly in the interest of its citizens.

I met a bunch in an Alberta moose camp that could have been mistaken for Texas transplants, except they talked kind of funny.

I live on the Michigan/Canada border. It is still only open for essential travel. I did have a flight booked through Canada last year, since the border was closed, Delta refunded me all my money for the flight. I would check with the airline you are going to use and book if the flight is cheap. Good luck!

I had really ASSUMED that this would all be calmed down by this fall, in time for my Oct hunt. Now it still does not look promising......

I hear ya, same with me. I really hope the borders get opened up and that the virus comes to an end soon......but to be honest, neither is probably going to happen.

I 100% agree with thinhorn!! I don't understand why keeping food on Canada outfitters tables is not essential travel. At the very least if you have received the Vaccine you should be let into either country.
