I am seeing some people, including one outfitter today, on social media saying the border might not be open again for 2021 hunting season.... its only the middle of February. Millions have received their second doses of vaccines from Moderna or Pfizer...JNJs and AstraZeneca's are on the way. What am I missing?
What do you think your missing? Same thing us ‘crazy’ folk have said from the jump..... it’s not about the virus anymore nor really ever has, it’s about control that’s where we’re at now.... America might not ever be the same again

The Canadian government is pooping the bed getting us the vaccine (wether you think it’s safe or not is another discussion) Dear leader Trudope is just doing what’s in our best interest and keeping us safe from the evil germs. What if too many republicans were allowed into our leftist utopia?
We are slipping further into a communist country by the day. You Americans would be wise to stay the eff away from this poop hole.

Forget about SockPuppet and his deal.

Our Premier is once again trying to sort out the legalities of shutting down travel into BC from other provinces, so i highly doubt there will be a national border opening soon for hunting and other travel into Canada.

By September we may not even be able to travel outside of our own communities.

We are 50/50 at best. My outifitter is up in the air with if this season will happen or not. He is planning on pulling the plug earlier this year if no plan is in place. It’s the only way he will survive to 2022

I am not allowed to visit with friends, I have to wear a mask everywhere I go, my basketball team cannot scrimmage or play games (thankful that we can at least do some type of practice though), the vaccine won't be available to me until September.

Right now, Canadians returning to Canada need to quarantine at special hotels and pay a crazy fee.

Based on how the government is handling things I don't see how they will open the border until this thing is over. Once everyone has the vaccine that wants it and case numbers are in the single digits with no outbreaks in old age homes then I think they will open the borders.

Best case scenario border opens in the fall, Novemberish
Realistically I think it opens in 2022.

I hope I'm wrong but our governments are not going to suddenly change how they are handling this.

Canada has stopped Cruise ships from docking in Canada for all of 2021. The dozen or so ships that disembark thousands of passengers every week in Vancouver is a monster money maker for our local economy. If the Gov't is willing to take that step in February, I wouldn't be betting on a summer or fall opening of the border.

I have a hunt booked for mule deer in Alberta this fall. I hate to say it but there is no way we will be hunting this year anywhere in Canada. Canada has a mandate that goes into effect on the 22nd for all non essential air traveler to quarantine for 72 hours. Trudeau has already said multiple times that he is going to choose safety over the economy. It’s going to take a major change for us to be allowed in this fall.

I’m already making other plans to hunt whitetail/mule deer in Kansas and or Mexico again vs Canada.

The Canadian Gov't is announcing increased measures at the border, for all travellers, not just Americans. Looks like it'll get worse, before it gets better.

Unfortunately our political relationship is strained with Canada as well. I don’t see this improving for quite some time. We are now in a position where we have two governments that have no interest in outdoor industry. I booked my hunt in 2017 I never thought it would take this long to get there.

I am def not holding off on applying for tags anywhere this year like I did last year.

Just wondering for those Canadians on this forum. What is the sentiment up there regarding these strict measures ? Do people in general and the press approve of the way it’s being handled ?

It’s amazing how many people this has kept in the states. The charter fishing market in southeast Alaska is insane for 2021 as folks can’t go to Canada to fish. Not to mention no cruises and international travel is tough.
I kinda saw it coming and ordered a new boat for 2021 to double my business and it’s booked solid. Now I just need my new boat to get here. Kinda excited about this one.

I feel sorry for the BC fishing guides/outfits. Everyone that came to my area to fish that normally went to BC said they ain’t going back.

You have people from every end of the spectrum but the politically correct response is more restrictions.

I am a teacher here in BC and we have been in school all year but some parents started petitions that "we need to protect our kids". They have kept their kids home or demanding STRICTER health protocols at school. The Teacher's union has put a bunch of pressure on the government to increase restrictions to "protect teachers". So recently we have upped restrictions and regulations because of the pressure put on the government. So ya there is a big chunk of people that want more restrictions.

Things got loosened up into the summer and fall but then numbers jumped and more restrictions came in. Numbers are slowly coming back down and they are thinking about relaxing some restrictions (every province and region is different though).

The new big fear is the variants though. So I'm hearing a bunch of talk about a third wave and we need to stay vigilant because of the new variants. It doesn't matter that numbers are coming down because the variant is scarier than the original so we need to be more vigilant now.

Some people are on board and want to be locked up and others are getting really sick of it and ignoring it. The government and media are all about restrictions though so that's why I see it lasting a long time.

Thanks for the look at life up there. I really feel for normal people stuck in that madness.

For what it’s worth I have some very close friends from Ottawa Ontario area. One is RCMP. I’ve been trying to get my friends down to go crappie/sacalait fishing in Louisiana with me.
I asked two days ago what was going on with the border. I was told closed until late fall for now but realistically closed for another year for sure.
Two of my friends own a fly in fishing lodge on Rowan lake.
It don’t look good

I bet their friends are counting their lucky stars that the border is closed....that way they don’t need to have the awkward conversation about how there’s no way they are going to make a 2500 mile trip to catch freaking crappies...

I'd been envisioning the potential for an open border for those vaccinated, but I'm beginning to wonder. We had plans to drive up last year and again this year, but I'm not as hopeful as I was a month ago. There were supposed to be some high level conversations initiated, but I haven't heard and outcome. A simple yea or nay for summer/fall 2021 would be nice.

He just recently extended it to Feb 21. Feb 21! Not Feb 28, not the end of March, and people think 2021 hunting season is lost already?

Is that the mandate that you have to pay for your own tests, and hotel rooms while waiting for the results? That moron is going to bankrupt the Canadian tourism industry

If you want to make predictions about the future then you have to look at past actions. All signs point to this being a long closure.

So why only close it for a short period of time then keep extending that? Well, that is the tactic the governments are using.

"We need to shut things down for 3 weeks because of the transmissions at Christmas". 3 weeks go by numbers lowest in months. New announcement 'we need to shut down for another month because we detected a variant and we don't want that to get out of control".

The reason we get these short restrictions that just keep getting extended is that it gives us hope. "We can do this only one more week?" "Things will be back to normal soon, don't worry" "Almost there, keep going"

The reality is we are in for the long haul but many people can't handle reality.

The Canadian government has no intention whatsoever to open the border in 15 days, or 30 days or 60 days but they won't say it and they won't close it down for that long.

Based on their past actions to this pandemic my prediction is they will not be opening the border until everyone is vaccinated and case numbers are basically nil.
