Can we legalize suppressors now?

I was under the odd impression that "moderators" was the term for ones that suppress the shot but not below 140db.
I have no clue and have no opinion on what they "should" be called... I just know my buddies in the UK specifically have always used "supressors" on their guns and have always called them "moderators".

I don't think it has anything technical to do with it, could be wrong though.

The thought of the federal government letting go of a cash cow tax is nearly impossible to conceive.

I see old magazine ads where anyone could mail order guns, and all those old guns make me jealous. The whole FFL process is a joke in this day and age - let guns and whatever the proper name is for a can, be bought freely and let us e-sign whatever.

I think calling fries “chips” is one of the main reasons we kicked out the British. Americans are very sensitive about proper word usage and grammar.

No, the people who call magazines "clips" call suppressors, a "silencer."
It is a muffler, the people who call mufflers "suppressors" are the same people who "run" scopes and are scared to roll a ball cap bill....

Troll post, call things what you want. In the name of honesty, I do look down on those who don't know the difference between a clip and a magazine. It makes me feel intellectually superior and inflates my ego.

Considering its the government, I wouldn't be surprised if the dollars in don't even cover the costs to run the department.

I think you were partly being sarcastic, but I think you are 1000% correct. It certainly costs the government more than $200 in administrative costs to process the tax stamp.

It definitely does not cover their costs, and we are very lucky that 1934 NFA fee is fixed and doesn't adjust with inflation. That $200 fee back then would be nearly $5k in today's dollars.

I hope the hearing protection act can gain more traction in the current administration and get suppressors removed from the NFA. I'm dreaming, but they should be treated like any other muzzle device and able to ship directly to your door.

You and I have gone back and forth, but I must admit that I’m with you on this one.
