I see hog calls all the time when going to sporting goods stores down here in Texas. Wondering if this is a gimmick or if anyone has had success calling them in? If so, what has the strategy been?

I can only relate one experience. I tried it a few years ago and about 20 minutes later a boar came in that I killed. Whether he came because of the call or just happened to wander in, I can't say with confidence. Give it a try and see what happens. FWIW, the hunt was in Texas.

The Night Crew has a couple videos on youtube calling in hogs. IIRC, they were finding them with a thermal first, I don’t know if blind calling is that successful. I’ve never tried it, always thought it would be fun if it worked.

Interesting... May just pick one up and give it a shot.

I will check The Night Crew out. Sounds useful even if blind calling doesn't work.

We were coyote calling last year in Georgia when a large single boar came in on a string. No idea if the distress call got his attention or we were just set up where he was heading.

We are getting them at our farm in Alabama but they seem to be nomadic as in they come and go from the farm which is 1000 plus acres....we have trapped them but not sure how to consistently hunt them even over bait....
