Caliber Question

I have a 300 win mag, 6.5 PRC, 6.8 Western, 7 PRC, 7mm mag, so I don't technically need anything but have "wants". Should I go 280 AI or 28 Nosler? Just want another caliber cause I don't have either of those two.

The 280 AI is a great caliber but falls closely to the 7PRC and 7mag. The 28 Nosler is for sure a step above. I have a 7PRC and a 7mag and a 28 Nosler is on my Christmas list. You can't go wrong with either caliber and collecting guns is never a bad thing.

Pretty hard to recommend a cartridge when your justification for wanting one is "because I don't have it".

Need a stated purpose to really pick one. You've got 7 mags well covered though.

I wouldn't touch a 28 nosler personally. Ammo is tough to find and expensive when you do find it. Of those I'd go 280 ai. Honestly though, you basically have the bigger stuff covered. Have you looked at some of the smaller cartridges? I'd look at 6 creed, 243, 22 creed.

I hunt with them and yes I know I can only use one at a time. I have 243, 270, 25 wssm, 30-06, 25-06, 6.5 creed, 308, 223, so it would be a hunting rifle but I guess you could look at it as I collect them as well. May sound strange but the real justification is because I don't have one.

28 Nosler ammo may not be cheap but many calibers aren't nowadays. As for availability Ammoseek has over 500 vendors selling 28 Nosler ammo. Prices start around $40 and go to Over $80.

I’ll give you the Rokslide gospel then. Feel free to ignore it if it doesn’t apply to you. But lots of guys that own that many rifles, in that many calibers, don’t shoot as well as they could/should. Maybe you are simply wealthy enough to stock that many calibers and still shoot enough to be at a point of diminishing returns.

But, if not, you should consider what your marksmanship skill and shooting ability would look like if you only stocked 2-3 calibers (in much larger amounts), had only 2-3 rifles built with the best components, topped with reliable scopes, and maybe booked a class like Rifles only or shoot2hunt.

Have Zeiss or Nightforce glass on all of my rifles. Some shoot better than others. I do not reload for any of them and shoot factory loads. Shooting the 7 mag this last weekend on bench 3 - 3 shot groups all touching. I shoot better than some and much worse than others. As I stated, I hunt mainly. Killed everything from elk to mountain lion. Have just always loved guns and can't seem to have enough of them. Don't really need anything, basically I have a a zeiss scope with nothing to put it on so was thinking of buying a rifle. Not wealthy by any stretch of the imagination, just don't have any debt so I spend a little extra on guns. No offense taken by your post. Understand completely what you are getting at, just not very applicable in my case. Found a good deal on a couple different rifles and thought might buy one of them. One was 280 AI and the other 28 Nosler.

280AI. I never discourage someone from wanting another firearm. Way worse things you can waste money on and the 280AI is a damn fun cartridge to shoot. What rifles are you deciding between?

Christensen Ridgeline FFT 28 Nosler or Weatherby 307 Alpine CT 280 AI.

Or for same money could buy Fierce Carbon Rouge 280 AI.

Good deal, just like to throw the thought out there for those that are at that point in their journey.

In that case, I like the .280 AI of the two. Unless the gun happens to be a Nosler rifle, then it might be kinda cool to have a Nosler 48 or 21, chambered in a Nosler cartridge.
