All,

Just got off the phone with Leupold tech support. This guy sucked (smart aleck) and I'm surprised their website contains such little technical information. Yeah, I'm about to drop a few hundred bucks on your products....I want to be able to tell if it will work prior to ordering.

So, let's say I put this

on a rifle's receiver and then put these on it

What is the total height from the rifle's receiver top to middle of the scope?

The Leupold guy said the total height of the rail was 0.363 inches (he didn't know the height to the bottom of the slots).

If you just add them then it is 0.363" + 0.9" for 1.263" from receive to middle of scope rings.

But is that what the 0.9" means? does it mean the bottom of that ring to center of scope or does it include the little clamps?

You wouldn't know it from Leupold's website because they act like they are paying by the word.

Thanks - R

What is the size (outside diameter) of the objective end of the scope you are mounting?

Neither are their scopes.

Was that supposed to be funny? Do you walk up to people that just bought a new truck and talk smack?

Just know that you come off bad here and that you aren’t funny…..true wit requires high intelligence….world would be a better place if people didn’t take their own issues out on others and if people that aren’t funny or cool wouldn’t try so hard

It wasn’t meant to be funny. They make terrible scopes. It’s discussed all the time here.

I think you’re reading to much into my comment given the personal swipes at my character/intelligence.

Also, any reason your wrote the comment, then deleted, then reposted a slightly different insult?

Edit: Also, if this is indeed for a Tikka, I’d look at the UM or SM rings. They use the integral rail so they save you mounting height, and they’re robust as heck.

I thought it was funny, but I’ll admit, I have a low IQ.

You have to ask why someone would write a harsher comment, think better of it, and then quickly edit it to tone it down?

Is that supposed to be a gotcha?

If you read around on some of the scope threads here, you will understand what they're referring to. I love the weight, profile, and clarity of leupold scopes. However, I learned that if I put my rifle in a gun rack on the front of my four wheeler my Leopold scope zero would shift from the bouncy ride. Others have done drop tests and Leupolds almost never hold zero after moderate impacts. I still have a couple that I use, but there are other scopes for similar price that hold zero.. even after being dropped, bumped or bounced around.

The feedback was meant to be helpful, just delivered without context or reasoning because there's a lot on other threads.

I also had a Leopold CDS dial that didn't shift until the 2nd shot I fired after dialing. Thankfully it was just on a target. Now I make sure to do the voodoo of dialing past and moving back down and then giving the magic 6 taps on top of the dial before firing when using that scope.

Leupolds have some great features, but reliably holding zero and dialing for elevation are unfortunately not some of them.

Hope this clarifies some of the comments that you feel are attacks that are meant as advice.

Edit to add: I just realized I forgot how to spell Leupold last night lol

When butt hurts call Leupold junk or garbage that is definitely an attack ,do not know how it could be taken any other way ! That is not a feeling , its words used to bash a product that frankly are used by thousands upon thousands of people . I do understand anything made by humans can have and will have problems . But what product does not ? I have never had a Leupold product fail in my 68 years . Could it happen ? Absolutely , it could also happen with a Kahles . Meopta , Zeiss, Bushnell ,Athlon. Swarovski . The list goes on . I bought a 2016 Yamaha 708 Grizzly new ,nothing but problems with motor burning oil from new , rebuilt 3 times . Does that mean Yamaha is a junk product ? I ended up buying a new boat with Yamaha SHO 115 which is awesome .

Most of these fail with high regularity, too.

I understand you’re new here. Please review the drop test page and you’ll see why most of us feel the way we do.

You're more than welcome to feel attacked if you like. We have nothing against you. There's just a lot you can get from this forum with a little bit of an open mind. And don't take anyones word for it. Try some of this stuff out and tell us your findings.

Most people wouldn't describe my experiences with Leupold as failures. But every year I'd readjust my zero. After some reading I decided to try a trijicon and now my zero hasn't shifted for the last 3 years, and I don't worry about a lag in my turret adjustment. I'm still rooting for Leupold to figure it out and still use some. But until they can pass a standard drop test without shifting zero, I'll probably buy something else that does.
