So i have a cabelas aslakan guide series 8 man tent. Will be hunting in new mexico unit 16D this fall, season is oct 20-24. Shouldnt be super cold but looking for some advice on the best way to heat it. I know a lot of people use buddy heaters, but not sure i trust it. Would running it in the evenings and mornings just to warm it up be enough for this hunt?? Likely wont be next to power to run anything electric. Don't have any high end sleeping bags or stuff like that really which doesn't help either. Probably just 2 of us in the tent. I've used the tent in the summer but never in the fall/winter. And tips/suggestions would be much appreciated!!

We've used the Mr Buddy heater in the 8-man Alaskan Guide. Works pretty good. We were in temps in the 20s at night, so not arctic cold. We used a 20 lb jug outside, and piped it in.

I dont expect it any colder than that in this situation. How many days do you get out of a 20lb bottle??

Maybe im just too paranoid about the co2.... it is a pretty well vented tent

the little buddy would be good to take of the chill in the Am and PM. I get about 3 hours on high with a 1 pound propane bottle and would not be worried about CO as long as not sleeping. If you want to cut a stove jack out the side new way makes a great propane heater that needs a pipe and will vent the exhaust gases for more safety.

That does look like a good setup. Guess it would be a matter of getting it sewed in both the tent and then the rainfly...

We were out for 5 days/nights. I don't think we used half the 20lb jug. We really only ran the heat for a little while in the evenings and mornings

We didn't need to do any sewing, just ran the hose through the door and zipped it into the corner of the door. Works fine.

Something I've heard but cannot verify is that the propane heaters don't work well at high altitude when the air is too thin.

I don't know what the critical altitude is, but we were camped at about 6400 feet ASL and it worked fine.

Ya i was referring to the actual propane stove linked above. Hose would be easy tho like ya say.
Certainly not worried about the CO if used periodically. Biggest scare would be running it all night. Did it get cold in the middle of the night after heating it up good before going to sleep??

I use a NuWay 2000 which is the single burner and run it in my Arctic Oven 10 for spring bear and moose. This tent has 2 snorkels for air flow, one low and one high. This tent is made for a heat source, the vapex lining breathes so well there is never any condensation. The vents allow fresh air to flow and prevent the heat source from burning all the O2. I love this setup,, like being home, I run the stove all night and can get up to 14 days from a 20lb propane tank. Since I use this from boat and raft my propane tank is a lightweight carbon fiber one. All up just under 100 lbs with the tent, stove and propane.

I run a Big Buddy heater in my Kodiak tent when it's needed. I would suggest the Big Buddy model over the smaller one as its nice to have the higher setting to really warm things up fast. I've went 2 weeks on a 20 lbs tank and still had over 1/2 left but I only run it when I'm in the tent and awake.
I had some issue with the Big Buddy not lighting or staying lit at elevation when hooked into a bulk tank until I put a green bottle on the second bottle port. The Big Buddy has a spot on each side for a green bottle. It doesn't matter if the green bottle has propane in it or its empty but for some reason having a bottle on one gas port and the bulk hose on the other port solved my issues. I have tried it a time or two without having a bottle hooked up and the issues came back so now I just leave an empty bottle installed.
