Going 4th rifle this year. Will be a change of pace from chasing bulls in September. Excited for something different though. What's an average shot you take on a muley late season in southwest CO?

Depends how good you can shoot. If you’re asking, probably the closer the better. Bucks will be distracted, just don’t spook the does

If you can, try to be competent out to 500. Most of mine and my buddies have been inside of that clustering closer to 200.

Depends on the area you are going to hunt. 4th season deer in SW Colorado you will probably be in the rut or just after. Weather can be dry or snow..... Be prepared for anything. @ years ago we had 3' on the ground in 3rd season. As everyone has mentioned, I have had shots from 25 yds to 250.

I always try to be comfortable out to 400 and try to make all of my shots less than 300. Getting within 300 of a buck has never been a problem for me in a variety of terrains I’ve been in.

Practice long range shooting as far as your local range will allow. Get really good and then you will feel like it was a waste when you shoot your buck at 60 yards.

The alternative can also happen... you don't practice as far as you can and ruin a great opportunity/hunt.

I have taken late season deer from25 yards to 505 yards. The 505 was my only chance or I would have tried to get closer. He was spooked and gave me a few seconds before disappearing. I was sure glad I was confident in the shot.
