Why would a bullet be fine at 100 yds, but then tumble at long range? Asking for a friend….

Bullets wobble to some degree coming out of your barrel, if the bullet is unstable because of the bullets length and weight, it is like top, it will spin symmetrically and then wobble and then be symmetric and the wobble again. The further down range, the bullet accentuates the wobble more and more.

So at 100 yds the bullet may be at its symmetry stage of the wobble. Beyond that range the wobble sequence will accelerate as aerodynamics transfers more instability to the bullet. Just an overview of principles involved. There are more scientific explanations but it gets way to deep in here woods as it were.
