Brunton Icon 25-50x spotting scope - worth the risk

I know these are discontinued and there isn't any warranty support - but there are a few out there in like new condition on the auction sites that a guy can get for a steel - $500 range. For that price would you take the chance? Taking away the warranty side, and just pure optics - at that price is there really anything even close to being better?

Keep in mind, I have no actual experience with this scope - just know when they came out they retailed for 3k+...so I am assuming they are/were pretty good optic???
