Browning xbolt?

Lol i get what youre saying because i too want to build a custom rifle as well. I agree with you on the Mcmillan also and know theyre a quality product but i will say ive been impressed with the factory bedding job on my x bolts and feel comfortable behind them. Im right at two pounds on both of those rifles and LOVE that trigger, that is my only gripe with a factory x bolt is the stock trigger.

Yep. I went with the MCarbo spring kit so I could keep the Browning safety. You lose that with a Timney trigger.

I like just about everything on my two XBolts. The box magazine does limit my COAL on my 22-250 to a 0.139" jump to lands. I shoot about 3/4" groups with it. My 300 H&H box magazine is pretty long and my jump to lands is only 0.01", which for my Accubonds is too close anyway.

As for rebarreling, I have a gunsmith that says he has rebarreled XBolts before, no problem. Some say the smaller threads and locktite on the XBolt is a pain.

I think if you look hard enough, you can customize your XBolts. They are getting more and more popular and there are getting to be more and more aftermarket parts.

I was kinda like you. A nice old savage that shoots lights out. I didn’t want to mod it or anything. And I don’t want to get rid of it. And I can’t spend the extra cash on a new rifle.

but cabelas / bass pro are doing an insane sale on the savage 110 long range hunter. Normally just under $1000. With rebates and sale, $490 is what I paid for mine in 6.5x284. It was the least expensive way into long range shooting. Savage are totally customizable too. Easiest rifles to work on I think.

Ah that sucks about the trigger... so if you get a timney what safety mechanism are you supposed to use?

It just becomes a standard safety. When the safety is on, you can't pull the trigger or lift the bolt. With a Browning trigger, you can lift the bolt if you push the button on the bolt. That button doesn't work with the Timney trigger.

Sorry to jump on this thread but I couldn’t resist anymore lol! I absolutely love my xbolt, & I’m the process of making some more upgrades to it. I also run the McMillan game scout with black & gray marbling & a timney trigger. I love the fact that I can stretch my bullets into my lands & still fit them in the mag box, not sure if browning did this on purpose but it’s nice to have. Man I love hunting & long range shooting! Merica!

I have a xbolt McMillan long range 6.5 prc that I put a timney trigger in and my safety still works just as it did before the timney !!

I have timney in mine and my safety works just fine . The only thing that did change was I can open the bolt with safety on with out using the button on top of bolt . I like it better this way.
I can’t see timney selling a trigger that would have a rifle with a inactive safety for legal reasons.

I ended up buying a 3rd party spring that was mentioned above. I’m a little hesitant to put it in... I am afraid of a malfunction somehow but I’m sure it’ll be fine.

This is what I meant to say. It must not have come out that way.

I'm sure you know this but they have a youtube video that shows you exactly how to install it, & is very easy. You do have to remove the trigger from the action so it releases the pressure on the spring. I have my factory Xbolt trigger that is just laying around so I changed out the trigger spring & it went very smoothly. Now I gotta buy another Xbolt so I can check out the trigger/spring kit results lol.

How do you like the trigger with the Mcarbo spring kit? I liked the feel of my Xbolt trigger but was just to heavy for my liking as I also like to shoot long range as well. What is your trigger set at? They claim you get the Mcarbo spring kit/Browning trigger down to 1.5lb - 1.75lb.
Thanks.

I’m going to call McMillan to see if they have one available for my rifle. That’s a nice set up you have. I like the McMillan stocks as well. Wonder how much weight the McMillan stock would add over the regular xbolt Hells canyon stock?

How did you make out contacting McMillan? This is there game scout that I put on years ago.

I absolutely love the Browning Xbolt as I've said earlier in this forum or maybe a different forum. Anyway my thought is Browning really nailed it with the Xbolt's, and probably one of the best production rifles for the money out there as far as accuracy goes! All Xbolts are glass bedded & I was impressed with the bedding job as they bed the recoil lug & spot bed the action. The triggers break nice but are to heavy for me so I put in a timney although as mentioned in this post Mcarbo came out with a spring kit that I'm hearing nothing but good reviews so far & there only $20 with shipping vs $180 for a timney (Although I love my timney) The only issue I've ever had with my Xbolt is when I installed the Timney my factory browning stock didn't have the needed clearance for the safety to function correctly when moving it from safe to fire which is not browning's fault. Also when I did change the browning stock to the McMillan I also had the same issue with McMillan's stock as it didn't have the needed clearance but they fixed it for me immediately. McMillan runs EXTREMELY tight tolerances though so when I was installing the trigger I kind of figured it might be an issue & I think now McMillan has corrected that issue if you tell them your running a timney. McMillan will install pillars into the stock if you request it, and there customer service is 2nd to none. I did glass bed my McMillan although they claim you don't have to but I'm a true believer in glass bedding when shooting long ranges but that's just my opinion. I have not had it barreled yet & not sure that I will as I'm getting sub moa groups at long ranges so not sure it would improve it much although I may go to a different bullet that requires a tighter twist so maybe lol. I also know a few guys that are running there stock browning Xbolts with zero upgrades & using factory ammo with awesome groups so I wouldn't be hesitant at all to buy an Xbolt if you plan on using factory ammo! Just an excellent rifle for the money! Good luck, stay safe & shoot straight!
Merica!

I have put the trigger spring kit in all four X-Bolts. I feel the triggers are fine as-is and really not bad at all for factory triggers, but the spring did help lighten the pull to my ideal and feels better. I have made multiple 500+ and 600+ one-shot kills on big game with them... so no problems with accuracy. Very consistent small groups.

I really like the Mcarbo trigger. I don't think it's as nice as a Timney, but it's close. I can detect just a hair of travel before breaking over, but it's minimal. It's set at about 2.5 lbs. I didn't go with the Timney because I didn't want to lose the Browning safety and was concerned about the clearance issues also mentioned in this thread.

I put a timney in mine. I really like it. I also installed my SRS arca + pic rail on the fore end. I’m working on a self timing version of one of the Ti Pro 2 brakes we make also for M13x.75 and M13x1.25. Funny how I buy a gun and then end up designing stuff around it.

Its a 300 PRC and shoots so well with the 225 ELDM factory ammo I never did load development for it.

Im setting up on the ports for the brakes. I’ll post some photos after they are done.

Ya it’s hard to beat the quality & feel of a timney well unless you go with jewel lol (yes I know jewel doesn’t make them for xbolt yet) also & just an FYI you don’t lose the browning safety if you install a timney but you do lose the ability to unlock & open the bolt with the safety on. The safety remains the same other then that feature. Glad to hear your enjoying the mcarbo!

My bolt still opens with the timney with the safety on. I don’t have to push the button on top of bolt to open it with safety on.
Its just like a Remington now with a after market trigger.

Not on an x bolt, but I don’t have my x bolt here in the shop. Not too bad looking... it’s .860” OD. M13x.75 and M13x1.25 threads. The one pictured is 1/2-28. F780DC13-8ABD-4801-A534-549F0E86F362.jpeg

Yes 7rem is correct as I mis-typed what I meant to say. You can still use the safety as a normal safety with the timney you just lose the function of the top bolt release button located directly on the bolt itself. With the timney trigger your bolt will open & close regardless of whether your safety is on safe or fire position.
