looking for input on the best option for bombproof scope mounts on a browning OG x-bolt 7PRC. What would you do? what would you avoid doing? New scope is a maven rs 1.2

I have Talley rails and Warne Maxima bases on X Bolts. Both are bomb proof. For me it depends on what height I ultimately need for the scope. With the Warnes I usually widen out the slot to accept pic rings.

Warne Maxima's on a short action:

Talley/Browning rail on a long action:

Leupold one piece Backcountry mounts. Rails always seem to put the scope too high. Your Maven should be long enough to allow mounting for eye relief.

I concur. Leopold Backcountry rings are machined from 7075 aluminum and have 4 bolt scope ring caps, which is as secure as it gets. No added rail interface and bolts to loosen, and no extra rail weight.

Talley rings appear to be forged, then machined from 7075. Hard to quantify, but they appear cheaper in construction and finish. I had some alignment issues with mine that were resolved with the leupold rings.

If you're not using a rail I agree with rs3579 on the dnz mount. I've used them on several rifles over the years and I haven't had any issues with them. They just work.

Let me see what we have on our Browning class loaner rifle...
Browning 20 MOA rail (factory?) and either Vortex Pro medium rings or Sig's version of the same.
holding on a Leupold Mk5 7-35x or a 5-25x Arken mostly. Or whatever scope we are trying to see fail during a class.
Rifle is a X-bolt Long range max suppressor ready in 7 PRC.
If im going to keep it I need to get a Maven optic for it, or just sell the darned thing. Great rifle but it just takes up space when it isn't getting loaned out.

If I had your rifle, I would probably put Talley lightweight rings. I would also consider any other rings that bolt directly to the receiver such as DNZ or Leupold backcountry. I have three x-bolt pros; all with Talley. I looked at using the rail on my X-bolt pro long range but place the scope too high and there’s no adjustable cheek riser on the carbon fiber stock.

I had a bunch of Talley LW's in service years back. Had this top strap break and had a set break where the threads for the top strap are. Not saying they haven't given good service to some; however, I am saying that there's much better options these days. 20250602_211305.jpg

A rail is going to offer the most strength, ER, and ability to put the rings as far to the distal ends of the tube as possible.

I've run my Maven Rs1.2 in several configurations (see pics)

Warne Low QD Rings
Warne Mountain Tech rings
(current) Warne QD 30mm Skeletonized Cantilever (backwards for weight distribution on a heavy barrel Steyr THB 16" 308)

The rear of the scope is heavier than the objective bell, so keep that in mind.
