Brainstorm Solutions for the Western "Tag Crisis"

It'd only cost us about an extra $115 a year to offset no NR tags or licenses being sold. That's off FY 2022 revenue numbers. Of the 120M revenue, under 34M came from NR license and tag revenue. I didn't include fishing license holders, since many of us buy a combo.

Yea. My comment was sarcastic. Do you know how I handled the "tag crisis" before I packed up my family and moved 2300 miles away to Wyoming? I waited my turn and was greatfull when I drew a tag.

Mentioned here and elsewhere....

Hunt and kill predators in the state you wish to apply for and earn an application. Predator kills would be verified and documented and could even be correlated to the tags/applications. For example in MT: kill a wolf to apply for anything. Kill a few coyotes to earn a deer application. You want to hunt sheep? Kill a lion. Etc...

I know this would financially cripple the state game agencies, but there needs to be more intentional predator hunting.

Pretty hard to rationalize this with the abundance of antlerless tags.

Oh yeah, for sure they would! I'd be right there with them. It was just to show that NR contributions are a substantial amount of money, but the world isn't going to completely collapse without them.

Entitled? (believing oneself to be inherently deserving of privileges or special treatment.) I haven't seen that. Concern that they won't be able to participate in something they love, sure

I have zero problems with non-res coming into Idaho to hunt. I just want to make sure that us Idahoan's make the best possible decisions in regards to habitat management etc so that they still can.

BTW: Don't forget whose land you are hunting on your high horse over there in WY.

People should be Thankful for what they do.

I have friends across the country/world. Each with unique opportunities.

My buddy in TX, has access to year round hunting on multiple animals.

Buddy in PA, over 8 months of hunting opportunities.

Associate in South Africa, owns a huge ranch. Opportunities are endless.

I'm a CO guy/native and I'm Thankful for my 5 to 9 days chasing Mulies and Elk since I'm not an archery guy.

Fact is,hunting ang killing 10-15 animals across the cpuntry/world isn't exactly a tight. Be Thankful for the opportunities when they align. Don't devalue your default opportunities because your home is xyz.

To say that you haven't seen entitled attitudes from non residents acting like the difficulty of drawing tags isn't a massive injustice bestowed upon them means that you haven't spent much time on this forum.

I too welcome non residents and help guys in person and on this forum. I bet there are over a dozen guys on this forum alone that could chime in and tell you that I've helped them on their out of state hunt.

I'm not sure if I am the type of guy you are describing or not. I definitely wish good non-resident tags were easier to get, like they were in what seems like my recent memory 15 years ago. Either way, not offended. I started this thread to entertain myself, and that is why I am posting in it. This is a public discussion forum.

Not sure how any clear eyed reading of your posts on this thread could lead to any other conclusion other than any non-resident concern about tag availability is invalid, and they should be happy with what or if they get a tag.

We are all good. I am thankful, like you, that at least I don't have to worry about where my next $36 elk tag will come from. I even think I am finally starting to get them figured in a few areas. Also grateful that Idaho is being proactive to keep it that way, even if I don't like some of it.
