Bozeman Commuting

Bozeman is 100 times better than living in Wal*mart land with all of the greedy Walton family and all of the chicken pluckers and the smell of the chicken farms and producers . I have lived in both NWA and Bojangles

Lots of people commute over the hill from Livingston. The pass can suck in the winter and all year long due to shitty drivers and weather. Plan on 30 minutes for that commute just on the interstate.

The wind is real. The rail road built its old depot in Livingston because the wind was constant and it blew the locomotives smoke away from the yards.

I mean it entirely depends on where you’re commuting from.
Currently we're in NWA, Livingston would be awfully attractive minus what I hear about the wind sometimes. Bozeman is not necessarily our first choice but it atleast has a decent job market compared to some of the other towns we have looked at or spent time.
i live in in Belgrade. Spent my whole life here.
I’m not sure what you do for work but if you’re planning on working in Bozeman I would not recommend Livingston. The pass gets shut down due to weather during the winter almost weekly.
I work in big sky almost every day (Electrician) so I commute 1-2.5 hours almost every day.
You can PM me if you want, I may be able to give some insight.

Perspective I guess, there's never gonna be LESS traffic. Here in my town many people commute to the bay area and its 2+hours both ways, sometimes 3+. Crazy
I was about to point this out... In big metro areas and rural areas an hour plus commute isn't uncommon at all.

What's your personal tolerance OP?

Across town could be way too far, or no big deal.

Man you got that right, luckily the smell isn't as bad as it used to be, less chicken houses and more subdivisions these days.

I get there's a lot of personal tolerance at play, but it can be hard to say without a good reference for what the average out of towner has to drive. Sounds like 45 minutes would not be uncommon, and west is better than east if working in person.

Interesting tid bit about the rail depot.

Hope you know Bozeman is the most expensive city to live in in MT. Good luck buying a house there ($500,000 for a crap house).
I wouldn't pick Bozeman if your wanting to save money.

Can you still buy a house for $500,000 in Bozeman? That's Missoula prices now.

Maybe I have lower standards but there’s a quite a few under 600k I would happily move into, things seem to fly off the market if they’re good though, even a few options under 5, doesn’t seem too bad until I look at what that gets me here.

Live here, feel free to pm but from anywhere in Bozeman/Belgrade to the other side of town usually takes about 20 mins. unless normal rush hours then add another 10-15. Now if you factor in road construction on the busier roads like 19th, Huffine, or Jackrabbit those times of course go up. Those times posted above for smaller outlying communities is pretty accurate except in winter the interstate becomes a circus and it may take an hour or two.
