I have put in more hours and miles trying to find birds than I would care to admit. All of the birds so far have been confined to private land that already has hunting locked up in one way or another. I know most people say to target river bottoms and cottonwoods, but this is not really much of an option for public.
NF land feels more promising for finding less pressured birds, but that would involve finding sign to begin with.

I have an handful of spots I’ve been hunting regularly. Anyone willing to PM to discuss? Thanks!

They are definitely in the mountains on NF just very spotty. If you find a pocket one year it can be completely devoid of turkeys the next, depending on winter and conditions. Feel free to pm me if you have specific questions. I’m no expert but killed several mountain birds in MT.

Ponderosa pines, oak brush and openings with green short grass is where I find mountain turkeys.

Burns and timber cuts are magnets.
