I'm thinking about getting a new string on my bow this year! My current one is the oringle factory form Mathews. Its Stretch out and and starting to friar. My question is what do you look for in a new one ? Is a string a string?? What do you guys shoot and why??? I'm shooting a Mathews Z7
Thanks

The most important thing about a string is the material. Many companies make strings, but what they make them out of are what is critical. Look primarily for BCY 452x or Magnum string material, Halo end serving materials and center serving at a size that fits your nock the best. I would recommend First Strings X-It Wire as one of the best out there, plus they are the only ones who have access to the BCY Magnum material. With that being said, there are many good string makers out there and if they are using quality materials their strings will work fine also. Good luck.

I agree with Doug that material is key to a good string. I have been using winners choice for a few years now and have had great luck with them. I usually stick with the BCY 8190 material but I am considering trying out the BCY-X.

As others have said, there are plenty of good strings out there, but finding one that shoots in fast, has very little peep rotation, and is durable are important factors for me.

Material is a key factor but so is the builder. I've had some bad strings made out of 452x. I've also had some significant issues with length. So much so on one bow that I had to return 3 sets and finally had to break down the bow and send the factory strings and cables in to get the correct length.
