Bourbon

On deck. With some notes and learning.

Worth noting that knob creek single barrel is 9.5 years and bottled at cask strength of 125.4 proof which is new since they USED to proof all single barrels to 120. I find knob creek single to often to be as good as bookers releases. Now with them coming cask strength there is really no reason to spend $40 more a bottle on bookers for me. They are both beam products which is a distillery.

The nashville barrel is just really nice 95/5 MGP rye at 11 years old. Nashville is another non distilling producer.

Jimmy red is cab finished. I love jimmy red so it will be neat to see if the finishing is a plus or minus to the juice. High wire is a distillery.

Found north is always excellent. They are a non distiller that finishes and blends their barrels and they are very good at it.

Cream of kentucky is a new one for me. It another non distilling producer meaning their juice is made elsewhere and they bottle it. Its unclear if they rick their own barrels.

I have heard very mixed reviews on the mckenna. Ranging from amazing to barely useable as a mixer. One day I will talk myself into trying it. You give me hope that its not as bad as people say.
Its distinctive which probably leads to some people not liking it. McKenna is a weird one where I have some nights where it tastes amazing and others where its not my cup of tea and thats from the same bottle. I'd still recommend that its worth a try.

I had the same experience with Heaven Hill BIB.

I lucked into this today. Didnt know Elijah Craig had made a barrel proof rye. Apparently this is the first one. Im excited to try it one day. 12yrs for $87 is pretty decent price.

I’ve had all the Pappy’s, they are over rated and so is Blantons. Blanton’s Gold is much better.

Weller 107, Old Forester 1920, and Wild Turkey Rare Breed are my favorites that one can find. Any EH Taylor small batch or my couple local store barrel picks are always excellent. Four Roses OSBO is my favorite of their ten.
Really enjoy Blanton’s Gold, but extremely difficult to find in Tucson, AZ! I’ll just keep watching and looking until I get lucky.

Might be my new favorite. The Knob Creek bottle I got is no bueno though. Had to shift to a Bardstown Discovery, which is much better.

Sucks about the knob. Next time my store does a pick I'll grab one for you. Single barrels can always have the possibility of missing. To be fair @Steve O turned me on to the discovery. I save bottles I dont like for mixers. coke zero covers up alot of bad bourbon. In fact I love wheaters in coke. I just dont like them neat.

Yeah, with it being a good proof it has a lot of utility beyond drinking neat. Rare Breed saved the night for me this time; it’s become a good daily driver for me.
