Rye is good too. Watch out for the Elijah Craig Rye gift sets this year. It comes with an amazing spiced old fashioned mix
I bought one last year.
Pretty good even though I don't really use the old fashioned syrup.
Latest buys:
Old Grand Dad 117-Good but not great.
Blanton's-Very good but not really worth the hype nor the premium over ER 10.
Heaven Hill BIB-Good but not great.
Larceny Barrel Proof-Very good to excellent. Great sipper. Could use a small sliver of ice to reach it's full potential.

What is some recommendations for someone who hasn't (ive tried maybe 2 in my life and they tasted like ass) tried bourbon but wants to?
Start with a wheated 80 proof.
Larceny, Buffalo Trace or Eagle Rare 10yr would be my suggestions.
Pour a small amount and add a tiny sliver of ice and swirl it before you sip.
Enjoy!

Someone did a barrel pick. How was the experience? Were you able to find something unique, or what were you looking for in your pick?
Yep, it was great. Got 7 of my buddies to go along, got to sample 4 barrels and picked one that was a little spicy and different than run of the mill BT. Good lingering flavor on the back end. Will make a great old fashioned too! Toured Pompeii and also the new chilled storage room for their older barrels.

first buffalo trace product that I dont like at all. The other ones vary from good the just OK.
I shared 12 oz out of this bottle with friends.
If this next 2 oz pour is as bad as it was last night the rest might get tossed in the pantry for a coke mixer.
I sure am glad I got it bought at $55 and not stupid secondary prices.
E H Taylor remains my favorite BT product.

may have been posted already, but Bardstown Origins, heavy Wheated Bourbon is great! Drinks much like a Weller and is easier to find!
I cannot recommend a tour of Bardstown Distillery enough. Barrel Thief tour is a hoot, especially at 10 am 😆

They are ultra modern but pay tons of homage to the history of bourbon. Their library room where the high end tours start cannot be described; so much history and literally priceless bottles on display.

The in house bar/restaurant is top notch. My wife knows every time we hit the bourbon trail we will visit Bardstown.

Did you win that in the Sazerac Select drawing? Or can you just pool some guys together and buy a barrel? I’d love to do a barrel of EHT or Eagle Rare and bottle it barrel proof.

I’m going to be into some Basil Hayden’s tonight. Found a bottle locally for $31.
