So as some of you guys are probably aware, the Boulder-Whiteclouds and how it is going to be managed for years to come has been a long going debate/struggle. A new group has recently got heavily involved to get legislation passed to make the area a National Monument, the key to this proposal is that it would keep the area open to hunting & fishing for years to come and it would also leave management of the area out of the reach of the Federal Government as much as possible....things that we want and need as backcountry hunters!

For those that don't know, this area accounts for 20% of Idaho's Mtn Goat tags and has enough habitat to support 1,000 Bighorn Sheep...not to mention 1,000+ Elk call it home and hundreds of square miles of prime Mule Deer habitat. This is an area worth protecting and I thought it was something guys around here wouldn't mind getting behind.

I chukar hunt occasionally with John Caywood, who is heavily involved, and can say without a doubt that he has the best interest of sportsman and our future generations in mind.

They could really use some signatures on their petition to help gain some momentum.

Here's a link to the site: http://www.sportsmenforbwc.org/

Take a minute to check it out, sign the petition if you feel inclined, and let's hear what you guys think about this!

Thanks guys!

(Just a heads up, you have to confirm a link in your email to make your signature actually show up)

I signed the petition. Be fore warned! The next step is to make it a national park and thus our hunting goes away in time. They have tried to do the same with the Sand Dunes here in Colorado. Sheep unit 9 would be just a breeding ground for sheep. As it stands now you can hunt there but the access will not allow hunting where most people visit. I am fine with the way it is now. Having said that it might not be the same where you are talking about. Good luck in preserving some decent road less land. Bob.

That's exactly why the Narional Monument status is so important...a National Park is exactly what we don't want!

It seems that the discussion is being driven by some hard core environmental org.s who see the wolf as a more appropriate predator than man.

The way is paved for preservation through park status with a National Monument designation as has been shown in Colorado, and Utah.

While I don't know the whole issue, once land uses are restricted it becomes much easier to eliminate more uses. As a I'm more of a "Laissez faire" proponent.

That's why it's so important for us to stick together as sportsman on this issues every chance we get!
