Bought a press, what else should I buy?

So, after moving further out in the sticks and having some more bad archery shop experiences I just ordered an EZ green press.

I realize LCA offers a “package” as well, but in all honesty I realize most packages(at least in my experiences in other fields) include stuff you either barely use, or some stuff of dubious quality.

What else would you guys recommend I purchase - or rather what else am I going to need to change my own strings and do my own setups - and what product would you recommend?

Thank you in advance. Looking forward to doing my own work finally!

And finally for any of the guys here who do this stuff for a living - are there any manufacturer guides available online for the Mathews VXR and Hoyt Ventum you could link me to or send me? I’m just looking for general specs like acceptable ATA ranges, acceptable string stop ranges, stuff like that.

Buy a boat wench and a stable board......,and build yourself a d.i.y. draw board.

You'll want a bow vise, string levels and some good serving thread for tying peeps and nock sets. Have a decent set of allen wrenches on hand, scissors and a lighter as well.

I also use d loop pliers but needle nose will work in a pinch.

As was already mentioned, build a draw board and get a bow scale. I'd not buy the boat wench but would get a boat winch instead. They complain less and won't drink your beer.

You can do most tuning and maintenance with those items.

He’s got it right. Maybe a low cost arrow saw? I will add that, at least for me, I am never through buying bow maint equip. Seems like I am always needing one more thing. It’s satisfying though to maintain your own equipment and build your own arrows.

Yeah I’m not sure my wife would be happy about me buying a boat wench, especially if I’m spending a lot of time alone in the garage with said wench.

But honey, she’s helping me tune my bow I swear!

Jokes aside, you have any brands/specific items you prefer when it comes to the levels/vise?

The Bow Shop Bible app is a worthwhile investment to have reliable DIY info consolidated in one spot.

If you also want to build your own arrows, add a saw and fletching jig to your list. A Bitzenburger is probably the most commonly recommended jig. That's what I use and it does fine for me. An LCA Vane Master Pro is the Cadillac of jigs.

I like having an arrow spinner( I have a homemade one and store bought). I just cut off my arrows with a dremel and then put them on the homemade spinner to square them up with sand paper. No need for a cut off saw imo.

I have a spewingjason vise which has worked fine. I do like the idea of one that grips the limbs opposed to the stabilizer hole.

They aren't cheap.

There are some diy versions made from bicycle stands you may want to look into.

It can be a lot of stuff, just depends on where you focus. It's a worm hole.

Grain scale, pound scale, serving jig, arrow saw, arrow square, fletching jig, draw board, and a gold mine.

The gold mine makes it easier to afford the boat wench. It's another hole you throw money at.

the cheap $30 ones at harbor freight work. I'd also recommend the arrow spinner, vise, scale, arrow squaring device, serving material, d loop pliers, allen wrenches, lighter, and string and bow levels.

🤣ahhhh come on! Just get both. Use the wench to operate the winch.

Arrow saw, bow vise, levels, loop material, .012 serving (for peeps) and .019 serving (for nocks). Make a setup for paper tuning to get nock height set. I also have a grain scale for checking poundage and timing on.

So I got my press yesterday and got that mounted. Today I went and built a draw board with a scale and a paper stand.

I think I’m gonna try to live without a vise for now - seems a lot of guys have luck putting their bow barely in the press for nock sets and the d loop - and to be honest it seems like the cheapest decent vise is half the cost of my press. While I’m sure it’s convenient, especially for the guys who do this stuff day in day out, for me with my two bows and maybe a buddy or two every once in awhile its outside the budget.

I already have a bitz, I will probably buy an arrow saw eventually but if there’s one thing I trust archery shop goons to do is cut arrows. I can square them myself from there.

Ya, I've never used a bow vise in my life.
After seeing how it’s done - just hang an arrow off the string and square it up with a square - I’m like shit that looks easy and would save me 200 bucks… really more than 200 bucks because I also wouldn’t need a level or any of that crap

I just went through this and ended up with:

EZ Press Green
OMP Bow Vice - which I actually use alot
Last Chance Vane Master Pro
Firenock Squaring Jig and Spinner
Decut Pro Cut Arrow Saw
Serving Jig
D-Loop Material
3D Serving
Arrow Scale
Arrow and String Level

Still Need - Draw Board and Draw Weight Scale

Lancaster loves me and my wife hates me so I may need to find a wench.
